New to jet skiing

Always On
The 550/650 just don't have enough power to have much fun with the 750sx is a good beginer ski but after 3 months you'll get tired of it a square sj 701 or sxr 800 would be your best bet both are highly upgradeable oh well just get the superjet really not the best for racing but on a 2k budget you can still race I do get my arse kicked by hydrospaces all the time but it's still a competitive ski and unlike the hydrospace I can actually do trick with my sj

So a search there are a few people that run a 650 SJ and have had a 701 both.. They can tell you if the 650 is a good enough starter platform. I would say yea go for it. You can always build the 650 so it performs better and the parts are all over the place. PM ketsair and also showmepro1200. I think both of them has 650 Superjets those are the only ones that I can think of at the moment.

I run a '90 650 SN SJ, am a big guy and love it!
protec pipe, lots of goodies and it hits hard
The 650 is a durable, cheap powerplant and can always be upgraded later

you can do tricks on a 550. dont listen to these yahoos. problem is, 550s are harde to learn on because they are more unstable and dont make as much power. they make up for the power deficiency by being ALOT lighter though.

I am sorry but IMHO I have rode a few 550's and a few modded 550's and though they are tiny I don't see the few pounds weight advantage over coming the fact that they are slow pigs.

Yahoos? These guys are giving me great advice.

Anyways, thanks for the help guys. I will look into a square nosed superjet. I will also pm those who you referred to me, Speedfreak and hopefully they can help me out.

Thanks again.

I forgot!
i got a somewhat modded 550 and it rips. the main problem with it is the pump is small and doesn't give you the initial hit to recover on landings. i can't for the life of me side mount the 550 like i can on the superjet. 550's are fun as hell to ride as long as you have your superjet to go back to.

Yea that might be there problem.. I didn't think about that It is like FX-1 syndrome. They have the low end but the pull just isn't there like it is on a SJ.

Yea, Speedfreak. I've been looking on ebay and have found multiple 750s that are very modded. I found a 93 750 sxi I think and it had a beautiful paintjob and was very modded. If I cant, and absolutely CANT find an SJ right for me, would the next step down be a 750 sxi?

*EDIT* This 750 SX has some nice mods, good paint and a round nosey.

Ok, so I will regret a 650 SJ? :261: I'm taking one step forward and one step back with all the advice. (Not that I dont appreciate it :)

Im gunna go for whatever I can get...

My priorities:

701/650 1990-1995 SJ

FX-1

750 sxi

and finally a 650sx or 550sx, hopefully it will not come down to these two, but if it does, I can improvise and I'm sure I'd still have fun.

I will most likely get an SJ though. I just gotta really look, and I've already found some.

WOW! We never see 550's that clean around here in Florida!
If you could BUY THAT ONE, then get started riding today... but I don't think that will happen as that machine is somebody's pride and joy.
Be patient and you'll be happy that you waited and looked for the right deal for you!

Hmmm. 550 sx's seem plenty fun....
Well, with lots of mods atleast...

Obviously, 550's are capable machines, but it would take SO many hard to find mods to get one to that level. You'll NEVER find one for sale like that guy's. I rode a 550 for a year before I got my stock SJ and I really had good time, but I'd never go back, no matter how many mods. 550s are really light and nimble, but that comes at the cost of hull strength and bottom end power. No amount of mods in the world will make up for the limited pump design.

Any SJ or FX-1 will destroy a 550 for all-around capability.

Thanks for the feedback. I will try and get a superjet fo sho.

Any advice for 800 sx-r's? I have seen a couple for 3,000...
