Surfriding North Carolina Event Ideas

I figured a thread specifically for the discussion of a North Carolina based event in 2012. I am willing to help organize and support a NC event but will obviously need help. Thanks to everyone that has offered to assist with the planning and execution of a NC event. I am extremely open to the location and format. So let's hear some ideas!

Surf!!! I dont live in NC, but I have heard good things about Wilmington NC for riding.

I've never been to Wilmington, but I have heard it is comparable surf to VB. Whatever sight is chosen, it must be early to make sure the proper permits are obtained if needed. What dates are being thrown around?

Wilmington is very similar to VB for waves. I would vote for september or october when our water is still warm but the tourists have left. Where do I go to check on permits for this sort of thing?

September or October is good for me. Let's not have it conflict with the World Finals though, or the week before or after really to accommodate those traveling.

Is there a regular group of riders that ride Wilmington? My friend (the guy that got me into stand ups) lives in Charleston SC

We've got a crew here. I'm going to try and see what sort of red tape there is to cut through this coming week to see how doable it is. I would love one anywhere around here, whether it's obx or even charleston. OBX is rough on skis in a lot of areas and the waves suck in a lot of areas too.

Any input on where to start would be good. I guess wildlife would be the place to start, since I assume they must approve OBX or wrightsville beach or whatever. Then a city after.

Bwhahaha the waves suck on the outter banks? Is that a serious statement?

Take a surfboard to corolla or duck and tell me what you catch. They suck almost all the way to Buxton. Now take your ski out there and see how long til you get a ticket. I said most areas. I think anywhere worth being would be hard to get a permit. Lemme know if you know something I don't.

Well not sure about the alot of skis but I drip mine there when tourist season is over with no problems. And some of the most beautiful, powerful waves I have surfed.
