Freestyle Nosing in back flips off a power slide

I tried it on Sunday, slide to flip is easier than a flying 180.

I don't have anywhere near enough $ under my hood to pull this off, but it served the purpose I set out for. Get used to not landing it, landing with the ski coming down on me, and practicing all the moves involved with doing a flip.

Im still using surf stance, which has drawn some criticism but I can't keep my left foot in the hold so I figure its best to keep it up near the center of the rotation instead hanging off the back of the ski dragging me off and slowing potential rotation. :dunno: or I'm just making all that up lol...

I've been trying the slide to flip with only marginal success. I can't seem to get any 'pop' out of the water, I just rotate on top of the water. So I grew some balls and moved up to trying set up wake flips. I'm getting there, the first couple were a bit scary but it gets better.

Prolly too far back on ski. It's important to stay rigid and centered. If you lean back, the rear sinks and you pull the ski on top of you. If you pull in yo the bars and stand up tall, rigid, and centered, the ski will gain height and rotate faster.

I think that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm leaning and pulling back on the ski and basically just falling backwards on top of the water, not gaining any height. How do you get the actual rotation if you stay rigid and centered? Just lean and pull back later I'm guessing?

This is one of my lame slide to flip attempts:

Here's my first couple of set up wake flip attempts. I'm still a bit scared of my 1200 so I'm trying to kind of feather the throttle so the flops aren't very high and don't hurt as much.

Makes me feel better watching similar failed attempts on 1200s. I feel like I'm really close. Between trying noob setup wakes, slides, and 180s, so far 180 flips have been the easiest by far for me.

Update: I'm landing almost all of mine now. http://vimeo.com/73634097

Your ski sounded horrible on the slide flip. Your setup waves need some work ( they are small and shaped wrong), and you need to slow down, and be sure the nose drops into the bottom of the wave. Slowing down will jet the boat rotate more, but your wave is small and you're timing is off.

Don't be scared. Go WFO early and be sure and hold it until you hear it rev up. You're beating yourself up worse by trying to take it easy. The further they come around, the softer they are. Commit and go for it. There's no place for holding back until you start landing them on your azz :)

Here's a youtube vid of me two weeks ago. I'm not a great rider but it gives a good view of the wake, speed, and blipping of the nose. And that's with a lil Dasa 900 ;)

Well it makes sense now that you say you're just feathering the throttle... I thought I remembered seeing your build thread with the 1200 but in those videos it looked more like a 701, you have to commit and go full throttle!! After my first few attempts I kept catching the nose and flying forward off my ski, then had one that could have been landed and went off the front of the ski from just being used to it happening. I was like "damn, I could have landed!" And after getting the confidence of getting one that I could have landed I went out and stuck my next one. I have also come up short from pretty high up and it doesn't hurt, just go for it and don't let go.

I've came to the conclusion that my ski needs to be completely vertical before my ride plate leaves the water, smaller setup different steps. I have some new gopro vid I've got to edit, but it's up close third person view

One of the main reasons I suck at the slide to flip is when I do the slide water rushes in my exhaust and basically kills my motor. Same thing when I do aerial 180's. I know it doesn't really look like it in the video, but there were 60km/h winds and it was pretty choppy so it was harder to time my wake. I know it all needs work, that's why I got my gf to shoot some video, so I could see what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for the tips guys.

Hink, you're getting a little farther around (nosing in) than I am on my Chan with a 770. Grab a handful of of that 1.2liter and whip that thing around.

Good advice from Phillip on centering up. I'm leaning back and doing exactly what you said, flopping on to my back. I'll try to re-position and see if it helps.

Guys I couldn't flip a year ago. I've learned these things on my own, via the pancake method. Nothing I've said is meant in a critical/negative way. It's amazing how aggressive you need to be to stay centered. Everyone try's to yank it around. You can't yank until its in the air. Stand centered and let it happen. Once you're in the air, pull it around. Don't rush it.

On the slide/180 stuff, try to flip or get on it sooner to keep the exhaust clear. I've found in my combos if I go quickly from one to another, I have no issues. If I wait, same issue.......

Some great advise there...

You're thinking of truerider411, he still has his KDX and his wife's Rok-r. Thanks for the kind words guys, I'm getting close. I have my nozzles bored, my reduction nozzle is 87mm I believe and steering is 91mm. I'm running a 14/21, but it almost seems like its spinning the prop at first and I have a 15/22 I am going to try out.

Slow down and you'll nail it! You're speed is killing rotation. You may be missing a bit of the wave at the bottom if the pocket, but its tough to tell from vid.

This is the 2nd flip i have ever completed but its a good POV. I watched a lot of videos on here and Philip was right on as far as being centered and let it happen. Setup wake practice made the difference for me. Some boats I can get a better wake with U shape others seem to require a rounded L shape. You just have to commit to it and it will happen!

A big motor doesn't hurt either. Thanks to SMDubs for letting me flip his ski!
