To add another twist to this I have seen guys get stranded and "borrow" fuel to get home, and then bring back the container topped off with regular. The average Joe on the street knows nothing of octane or different fuels, nor the different containers that they come in.
I had a guy a few years ago come into my yard and "borrow" 5 gallons of fuel to get himself back to town. Unfortunately for him, and his Honda rental car, that he borrowed 5 gallons of diesel fuel, (from a yellow container even). The funny thing was, on my way home, I had passed the vehicle broke down on the side of the road about 5 miles from my house. When I got home I found a $20 bill and a thank you note on my spare can and put 2 and 2 together. Whatcha gonna do? That's the most expensive fuel, and hopefully the last fuel he ever borrows again. Now what if he had felt guilty and had gone to town and refilled the jug with regular fuel? what would that have done to my Cummins?
