Other OCD Solutions is throttling back services!

As some of you may well know, OCD Solutions was formed to fill a need that was not being fulfilled at work.

I was bored, uninspired and unchallenged. I also had a ton of spare time to kill and a creative gene that needed to be expressed in one form or another.

That has changed! I can honestly say, OCD is one of the last things on my mind these days.

I have made a move back to my roots and taken a job back in the wood industry. It is very challenging, quite fulfilling and for now, quite demanding. Where I used to maintain 5 machine centers in 3 different buildings, I am now responsible for upgrading/improving the electrical controls at 9 facilities spread across 3 states.

So, after spending 3 of the last 4 weeks away from home, and then the last 4 weekends out in the garage getting caught up on OCD orders, one thing became very clear to me; Something has to change!

Maybe for a short time, maybe forever, who knows at this point. All I know is that I have regained my thirst for adventure again and OCD is holding me back.

I still plan to manufacture my Surf Armor toggle switches, bilge harnesses, Battery cables and misc small harnesses as I have them pretty dialed in and I am able to batch them quite efficiently.

I do plan to suspend all services to the general public though. My Coils and CDI's will still be available through Jetmaniac but I will no longer be having parts shipped directly to me.

My new schedule is just too erratic to predict and offer decent turnaround times on services so rather than stretch myself thin and risk my reputation, I feel it is better to just back off before it becomes an issue.

I hope you all understand where I am coming from and support my choices. If you don't...well, you'll understand someday, and until then, that's your problem not mine.

I'm happy to be excited again!

And who knows, given room to breathe, you might just see more new things from OCD than ever before!

The're just all going to be for me, lol.

Although it does suck that you're slowing down in this field, congrats to speeding up in your work! And being excited about it is just amazing. I can only hope to love my career later on in life.

Also, you writing this post really shows you're one of the very few left in a dying breed of the courteous folk.
For you to take the time and write this explanation for us is a lot more than 98% of what other guys would do.

I do hope you can pay as much attention to us in the future though or at least train a worthy apprentice your fine art!

Trust me, if I could earn in my garage what Interfor pays me... I would...but I can't.

I am part of a Capital Projects team with a huge budget so I get to lay hands on some pretty cool tech. Basically they pay me to express my OCD on others. And these old mills need a ton of OCD!

No longer responsible to maintain equipment, I get to evaluate them, and upgrade them. kinda like my CNC mill project only with a much higher budget and on much bigger machines.

Damnit, I wanted to order some stuff for my new build!

OCD products are still available, you just can't send your nasty stuff to me to revive.

Like this guy did...

Wood is boring, jetskis are cooler, and your services are quite valuable. I think I will have to have a chat with your boss, I'm sorry Boyer but it's for the good of the people.

Trust me when I tell you, these guys need my services just as much, if not more...

I've been cleaning up messes like these for over 25 years now.

Wow. Those look worse than the inside of a 1960s pinball machine.

Congrats on your career move! Very few find careers that truly make them happy. It's not an easy discovery.

I hope those control boxes pictured in post #10 come with wiring diagrams!

Good luck with that!

The paper schematics are just as outdated as the controls and haven't seen a single markup since the "as-builts" were finalized. That is if you can actually find a copy of them in the first place.

I asked for whatever they had for electronic copies of all their schematics and just got a blank stare and a couple blinks.

I'd be happy for them in .pdf format but it looks like I'll be dusting off my CAD skills as well.

I like that bottom panel. It started so clean and then looks like hell. Must have been a finish by Friday or you are coming in tomorrow type of job.

Good luck with your new venture Boyer. I'm hoping to have some news in a day or so :)

They all start off clean and organized. The stuff I'm posting is the rats nest left after 20+ years of troubleshooting and hacking at something.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one making changes. Life's too short to not enjoy it.
