OEM 155 Pump Talk

air blair

you are the reason
Tpain was posting a couple years ago that he and PHP tried a stock 155 pump with the 898? in his hurricane and he said they never got it to perform that great and switcher to a skat 148/155, which was much better. the 155 reduction nozzles are bigger/beefier than the 144 and thats why you can bore them to 94 as opposed to 86. also requires a lot of grinding to get the trim rings to clear. turn nozzles are supposed to be bored also which is why its better to use a metal nozzle as opposed to the stock plastic.
I talked to tommy to about that. Said it was a waste of time messing with the oem 155 & worth the money to go skat 155. I havnt tried bigger than a 760 with this 155 oem perhaps hes right. Idk

@pallety Im running a thin blade, cutback skat track 7/13 mag prop.
@JoeD I cant remember the bore dia, but its a ratio between your prop, tail cone and nozzle diameter (and engine setup), how to get your pump loaded perfect and your engine to hit that sweet spot.

Yes of course a Skat Trak 155mm mag is better than OEM 155mm, but is it 1500 usd better - well for my person experience, that upgrade will be the last to do, I'm hoping to build a XS900R and still be rocking the OEM 155, then maybe drop the coin on a 155 mag.

I haven't tried my self with going from a 148 mag, to 155 OEM, but a friend of mine, who is very knowable builder and rider did and said there was a big difference (again, if the intake tunnel can feed the 155)

So bottom line, if you pockets are deeper than your pants, why ask - just by top of the shelf parts :)

How did you get to 94mm on the reduction nozzle? Which one are you usind that you can bore that big?

@Christian_83 what is you reduction bored at?

thanks
Joe

I used a gp1200r style nozzle and welded on mounting tabs. The nozzle has interchangeable rings. I can change both steering and reduction nozzle dia. I was running a 7/14 with good results on the standard cone and no spacers. If I went to a stubby cone I could reduce that diameter. Like I said 86mm reduction and 90mm steering icouldnt even get the ski to plain on the water. Pump tuning is very important in my mind and takes themost time to find a good combo.

I have a complete oem 155 pump and prop setup with trim nozzle from a gp1200 sitting on a shelf ready to sell cheap. Just sayin ;)

I believe they are using the GP800/GP1200, Wave Venture 1100/Raider 1100 style 155 pumps that have "ear" mounting style. The later GP1200R and other powervalve variants such as the XLT don't have ears, they mount by bolting into the shoe.

We have many 155 pumps of either style for those interested :)
