I still haven't been able to pull the trigger on anything. Even the top rated devices have horrible reviews that I just can't get past. Doubling or tripling the budget doesn't even guarantee you'll get a decent product. I have enough devices in my life that need to be replaced every 9-10 months and I really don't need another.

I say that on a daily basis these days. Driving back from Florida on I95 in Memorial weekend traffic had several good video opportunities.

ive been using my GoPro Hero4 on my dash lately, as ive seen TONS of crashes, moronic drivers, and just plain ignorance everyday. when I finally catch some of this non-sense where someone crashes, and police are involved, whats their take on dash cameras? or if you get stopped, whats the likely hood an officer can 'take' or 'shut off' your camera? I imagine each state is a little different, but are there any basic guidelines? ...I should just get one of those 70 dollar units and leave the GoPro at home..........

^all good points. I guess it depends on your state, but the last thing you want is for your Hero4 to be confiscated as "evidence" in a court case.

They can take the memory chip, no need to take the device itself.

My iphone is dash mounted in a Wilson booster cradle so I use it from time to time but it overheats and shuts down if I try to use it like a dash cam.

I had 4 different units in my sights last night and still failed to pull the trigger. I don't know what my deal is. I find a decent camera I like and then start reading the reviews.

I was going back and forth between these two units.;

and then started thinking that I really want a dual camera because so much happens beside or behind you and ended up on this unit...

http://www.amazon.com/Indigi®-Dash-Cam-Driving-Recorder-G-Sensor/dp/B00VU693QK/ref=sr_1_24?s=car&ie=UTF8&qid=1437919934&sr=1-24&keywords=dash+cam&refinements=p_72:1248879011

But it captures both front and rear at the same time and the playback quality sucks to the point you can't make out a license plate.

So then I ended up on this unit...but didn't want to spend that much, plus the picture quality was only rated at average.

That's probably what I will end up doing. Buy 2 singles and put one in each of our vehicles, then, when my wife says she doesn't like her's, I can put it in my back window.

Well, I wish I had one of these in my wife's car. A woman hit her in a parking lot. She admitted it was her fault and provided her information, but actually gave the wrong insurance card. She didn't ask for my wife's info and left before my wife could call to get a police report. My wife didn't tell me until that night. Well, when we found out it was the wrong insurance, we called her and the next thing you know, she's saying it wasn't her fault.

I'm heading to the shopping center today to look for cameras and see if I can somehow get a copy of any video that might show it.

I'm going to order one soon for her and one for me.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to spend the extra $ for GPS ability?

I don't really need or care about GPS. Although i feel it could be helpful in the event of an accident to map locations, direction and speed of my vehicle - we all know that people change their story to lessen their liability. I purchased this unit because it was the best reviewed product with excellent customer support. Time will tell and I'm honest, so if it's a POS, I'll tell you. :)

GPS is a deal breaker for me. Most accidents are caused by speed so that little detail is of the utmost importance. As long as it is reliable that is. I am curious how quickly it responds to sudden stops and speed zone changes.
