opinions on sxr 1100

trying to gather everyone's opinion and experience with a sxr with the 1100.

I recently sold my SN and I'm in the market for a '08+ SJ. I came across a sxr 1100 though and thought about it. I've never owned a kawi so I have no experience with them at all. have heard kawi's haven't been as reliable though.

and also I only ride at lakes but I do like to jump the waves we get lol! I also like to go through a course we have and also like to catch boats. would the sxr be worth looking at or should I stick with an '08 SJ?

Just FYI. An 1100 SXR is not an off the shelf thing (they come with an 800 stock). It's like buying a Jeep with an LS1 V8. Any questions of reliability don't really apply because the ski is no where NEAR factory condition. An 1100 doesn't just bolt-in to an SXR. Somebody spent some time swapping that motor in and you are relying on the quality (hopefully) of their install.

If you're looking to jump wakes then the 1100 isn't for you. Additionally, you need to evaluate your skill level and be aware that a well tuned 1100 will hit mid sixties and get there really quick. It's not a beginner boat.

If you're looking for fun, reliability and occasionally going to ride buoys an 08+ SJ is a good choice.

I had a limited 800 sxr. 2 of the guys in the group had an 1100, I rode one of them. It was amazing. I would consider owning another 800 sxr, but I don't think I'd ever buy or build an 1100. The boat is heavy enough already. When I decided to get rid of a ski, I kept my limited SJ and sold the limited SXR. The SXR was a good time, but I think I'd look at an aftermarket hull w/ a superjet motor before I bought another SXR. Especially with the way SXR have been shooting up in price.

I own superjets and an sxr 1100. I prefer my sxr 1100 because its a monster. Although its heavier and a lot bigger of a boat, i really enjoy the ride and the power. Its definitely too fast for me but i feel like its making me a better rider. I feel like you would be happy with one.

I've spent a lot of time on both skis you've mentioned, plain and simple if you like to jump wakes/waves don't get the sxr. I love triple swaps in skis but there's still plenty of lightweight power to be had in a superjet

an 1100 will make it feel like you are going fast, but if you cant carry your speed into the corners all that horsepower is for nothing.

you'll be much happier with a superjet for what you describe

I'd steer clear of it all together

1100 are very unreliable and not as fast as people make them out to be. The extra weight in the nose helps the sxr turn even better than it already did before the swap. But a well build 800 with all the bolt ons and a dry pipe will smoke an 1100. A built 1100 will smoke an 800 50% of the time. The other 50% it's on the cart getting worked on cause it's broken.

Buutttttt there is the sound. Ohhhhh the sound. It's like fire and hell and van halen when that thing bounces off rev limiter lol

Get a sj

I have a 1100 and love the crap out of it and it's a full mod race ski as well as reliable as all get out. I use to have all superjets then built myself a sxr 1100. All I have to say is I don't own anymore superjets 1100's all the way and our whole riding group is almost all 1100's now everyone is getting rid of the sj for something more powerful and fun yet even more reliable. If you need any advise just hit me up. Everyone on this forum is sxr haters they'll always tell you superjets are the only way to go.....O Ya and for the speed mine gps'd at 69.8mph try getting a twin to hold up to that...Zero issues..

Lol I literally disagree with everything you just said except the fun part. Not trying to start a pissing match but 1100s are the most unreliable Kawasaki motor ever created. Throw some fancy parts on em and you just cut it down in half again. We have twins on our lake that hang with triples all day long. Just because your in the front of the pack doesn't mean you win. You have to finish the race lol. I'm not a racer but it seems to me the safety boats are there to scoop up the broken sxr1100s

Realibility? Really? Sounds like you need a new mechanic, 1100 run basically stock, stock pipe, stock carbs, pump gas and smoke a limited all day, ask macclugage how many limiteds pass him up, just sayn

I wasn't hating on Kawis, but OP is thinking of making a jump from a rec SN. In my opinion that's like going from a Ford Focus to a Z06 vette. He just needs to know what he's getting into.

more like a model T to a formula-1 car, haha, 1100's though aren't really that hard to ride, with the extra weight, that choppy lake feels like glass and the power makes cornering a dreamy, just watched a true beginner rider from our group who rode a sn get used to one a now SHE, yes SHE rails!! Shoulder butt dragn corners, it's crazy, she's only been riding for a few years and I'm thinkn she is top contender in her class for next race and she races with the boys, 2nd her first time out. Someone else was sayn they are junk, mabe they had lemon i dont know, but I'm lettn OP know they aren't and there is nothing to be afraid of, definatly they more carving bouy style race boats but they can still be playfull with ton of braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap great handling and RELIABILITY!!!!!!

Mac deffinatly doesn't ride a stock 1100 lol and I don't need a new mechanic cause I'm not stupid enough to own a sxr. I don't need to ride a yacht with a handlepole lol

I had a limited SXR (the one in my profile pic) and I now have a SXR 1100. The 1100 is much faster and WAY more reliable than the 800 because to get the 800 fast enough to be fun (A grade rider) the engine has to be modified to the point that it becomes unreliable. A very mild 1100 is as fast as a worked 800 and a slightly modified 1100 is much faster.
The biggest problem with the 1100 is fuel consumption. Mine is using more than a litre per minute.
I've also had several superjets and a hydrospace. The 1100 is my favourite for flat water riding. For surf, get a superjet.
