I went for my two week follow up appt at Ortho today, they say everything looks great and he cut me loose to drive which is a great thing because her driving scares the crap out of me.

I asked him specifically about limitations and riding standups , he said no backflips or barrel rolls put extra padding in the tray and try not to crash land, I am good with that, the Dr's associate I saw rides standups also , very cool .

Next Tuesday will make 5 weeks after surgery I am getting around really good , climbing stairs, riding stationary bikes and they had me on the stair stepper today, nothing they have thrown at me in PT has been overly difficult and I only have two more PT sessions to go.

I still have to make myself walk normally but that will soon go away, I would say by 8 weeks I will be good to go , I start working out at the gym after these last two PT sessions.

To anyone who is thinking of have a hip replacement surgery , if you are in any decent kind of shape physically you will do fine and PT will be easy for you , most importantly stop putting it off, really it's not that bad.

Thats the plan , I did leg presses at the last PT visit but we are starting with really low weight, they started at 30 lbs I did like two and told her to bump it to 50 ,

I am going by the gym and listing all the machines they have for working the lower body so I can get recommended starting weights and the number of reps and I will slowly work from there.

They actually have to cut one of the major muscles when they do the surgery which is why rehab takes so long, you are waiting for the muscle to heal and the bone to grow around the piece they inserted into the bone.

Not finished with PT yet but I started working out at the gym today anyway , I got a list of all the machines, what weights I was using and the number of reps to give here when I go in Thursday so she can tell me to slow down and take it easy , as is par for the course I probably won't listen .

PT is all wrapped up , I go back to the ortho DR tomorrow , I have already started working out at the gym but I was warned to take it low and slow , less weight, more reps , I did 170 on the leg press today with about 50 reps anyway , 10 minutes on the stationary bike level 6 , 6 minutes on the elliptical machine level 6 , 10 minutes shooting hoops and the rest divided between , chest press, abdominal machine, back extension, lateral presses and leg curls and leg extensions.

I am going to be hitting the gym 2 or 3 times a week from now on.

I hear the PT is a little rougher than on a hip replacement but once it's done the knee pain will go away immediately and it won't take long for you to be and going again.

I have to say even after all the PT and gym exercises I am still having sore muscles from working, I guess some things like bending down off a ladder working on a boat or laying on your stomach working on one there are no exercises that can compensate , different muscle groups I suppose , I know riding skis and riding motorcycles uses different muscle groups as well .

After working on that Seadoo Explorer last week I was sore all over and my hip hurt, it went away after a couple of days off of it.
