Other Poll ATP EPIC - either Gen 1 or HX3

I'm a numbers guy so I actually want to see what the ratio is for the number of ATP EPICS, either Gen 1 or HX3, that were sold and how many had issues with them.

So, the poll is simple enough, 2 choices; flawless or troubled. proxy votes are acceptable as I want to reach as many people as I can.
** Any idea how to make it so guys who purchased multiple units can vote multiple times?

The comments are where it's going to get interesting. I don't really want this to be yet another thread to post up all the same issues and drag out all the same stories but I do want to see what specific symptoms you were having and what things you tried and what, if anything had any affect.

FYI, I have always approached this subject from an analytical standpoint rather than a finger pointing one so I wish to remain that way. It is not out of loyalty or fear of repercussions but rather, that's just how I am. I have always focused on the issue or problem at hand instead of the emotion or politics of it. I am a problem solver, not a PR person or a social worker.

Gen 1 EPIC

I'll start with a vote for flawless. Mine was purchased at the same time as another member and they had consecutive serial numbers. Mine has run great in my ski for multiple years and through multiple electrical issues without any noticeable issues. I have run "troubled" units in my ski and they performed flawlessly as well.

I have had battery cable and starter issues, bad coil wires, failed batteries and even ran a dual "tidy bilge" harness with my setup. All items that have been reported to cause issues with the Epic.

EPIC, HX3, both flawless, also had gen 1 (still fitted and running in a superjet) gen 2 and TS2 total loss units. Happy with all of them. Gen 2 total loss was on SS865, TS2 is powering my TPE 1105.

Issue: Slam the bendix when first hitting the start button
Issue: After the ski warms up it feels overly rich at 1/2 - 3/4 throttle +

Running atp supplied race curve and Jetworks freestyle curve

-New oem charger coil on stator
-@#ZERO lightened 62t flywheel
-JSS coil/ebox lots of di-electric grease on connections
-Swap in an msd enhancer and she runs flawless.
Edit: Also put in a brand new Deka 12 battery and float charge before each ride.
Next I am going to try it in my 62t Waveraider and see if it has any issues.

Gen 1
Software cable wouldn't work, took a few weeks and a few different computers before they believed me that it was not me, new cable and i could program it.
Ski ran well for about a week and then Playing up. I sent it back at the start of summer and got I back at the end with the same results but my ignition now had a repair on it.
replaced starter battery and stator believing what I was being told.
Got sent a tester unit and found that faulty as well. I had a slight weep from the front seal so rebuilt the engine wondering if that was the issue. Alas.
Got informed first I had no idea how to tune and also that they could not get one tuned either and so they put a stock ignition back in it tuned it and then when it was right they put the epic back in with no issues.
I went back to an msd and the ski was faultless
I have seen a stack of 7 epics on a bench that were all faulty. Gen one, I wanted nothing to do with the gen two.

I do a lot of tunes for people and the first question I ask if they book in their ski is do you have an atp ignition. If they say yes then I refuse to tune it. They are way to unpredictable for me.
At least other ignitions when they play up they just stop working
Upside I now have some spare stators and starters for my fx1 build which is running an msd enhancer

1 gen1 lasted 2 years and died but never gave a problem until then.
2x HX3 both problem free install, remapping is easy peasy

I have a dead hx3 right now, no spark, bought new, lasted about 1 year, never got wet, currently working with ATP

dan,wilkey and myself all had faulty epic ign. they all ran from 6 months to over a yr. 2 of them would have random kick backs while starting but still run. one would run for 20 min or so and lose spark the other one ran well then lost spark permanently

I need to test mine again but I think it is failing because of a poor ground. Going to be running 12ga wire from the battery post to the ebox and testing it again.

oem has no anolog to digital conversion complications.

Ocd did you ever get any conclusion with this and the ones that were sent to you,looks like more than 50% failed in the poll

I have 2 HX3's and one Gen 1 EPIC here to play with but haven't had any time to play with them yet. Honestly, it's pretty low on my priority list right now.

Yes, the results of the poll are looking pretty dismal. Even without knowing how many units were actually sold in total, we can probably safely assume our small community represents a fairly typical slice of the market.
