ported engine theory. do I suck or does it suck?

I have a 61x cylinder I had bored to 84mm and ported it myself using the port templates sold on here. I had a head shaved and cut for the 84mm bore and big race gas compression. In my old square nose, I put this on the stock 61x cases and carb, with a protec black pipe. This combo was very linear and great to ride.

Then I got a deal on a RN I couldn't pass us. I kept my cylinder and head from the square [just swapped them between skis and sold the SN] and put it on the RN. The differences are the RN has oem 760 dual 44's, and a limited chamber B pipe. It now rides exactly like your 91. Anything below half throttle, it is linear and adjustable. Right around half throttle, it explodes like a cannon and more throttle doesn't feel like it does much extra. Pretty sure 5/8ths throttle is about as fast as 8/8ths lol. Yes, its much faster now. But I really hate this light switch response. I want to be able to cruise at half throttle and get half throttle power.
I have found when you hit max power at 3/4 throttle that the ski is too rich. Try turning your high screw in a 1/4 turn and see if it makes a diff.

I can throttle blip this thing at 25 mph without trying. The ski has power, it just comes on like its desperate. I just dont like that it has a "spot". I want it to feel like my 94, but its beast big brother and he takes roids like candy.

A stock pipe will run 3-4 mph slower but there wont be any surge in power. I installed a low port , stock piped, 701 in (of all things) a Wavejammer. This one also has a WR3 144 pump conversion. With an old pitched down Concord and 85mm nozzle, it has exceptional response and goes 44 at 6750. For now on all my cruiser skis will get low port cylinders and stock pipes!

I propped down on my SXR, it moved the hit to a lower speed. This made chasing buoys more fun, since I was on the pipe before the apex.

I run a Wet pipe and also opened my middle screw a tad.

For clarity, “low port” means what, exactly?

Its all subjective to how it's set up and everyone will have different experiences. From skis ice rode the smoothest linear ski I've ever rode was a sn with a stock 760 charging zeel and limited pipe, and 10/16 hooker. it was super smooth but would just keep pulling. It almost felt 4 stroke like

Maybe im being misunderstood. I ride really hard and really fast. If i could find one Id race. Not sure how saying i like to site see meant all i do is plop around. Not sure why a maxed out superjet cant do both, as if ported motors and pipes mean you cant take a moment to look at some rocks, lol.

Nascars can chill behind a pace car, why cant a 30 yr old sj.

Im gonna take the advice given and play with my b pipe.
Probably because you can't take your superjet that was built specifically for extra hit & hookup, with parts that contribute to low and mid range response, and expect that to behave. Nascar to jetski probably not the greatest comparison for many many reasons. Sounds like you need a 760 cylinder & different prop. The 61x vs 760 cylinder makes a huge difference on hit. My 08+ lites ski was not even close to 61x squarenose.

Low port would be stock 61X port height. This may be a little foreign to jetskiers since we almost always use tuned pipes. Untuned or opened exhaust (like outboards) will lose overall power whenever the port gets too high. A tuned pipe will gain power with higher ports, at least while the pipe is working. Another thing to consider is that an untuned exhaust will lose a lot of power with back pressure from restrictive mufflers where a tuned pipe will not. A low port cylinder with a pipe is very good overall but will have an (annoying) power surge with a little less top speed than a higher port cylinder using a pipe. A high port cylinder with a stock exhaust will be worse than a low port everywhere below peak rpm.

Not to get all philosophical but the more I've learned about engines the more I realize I don't know. I bought a ported cylinder and a motor with a blown x cylinder that snagged a ring. Sent ported cylinder to original builder and told them I wanted linear power. I thought lack of response meant that's what I'd get. In the end its my fault, because I installed a fancy pump set up and sat on it, then threw every bolt on possible at it. And I ended up with something that's, well, really sweet, but at the same time not was what I wasn't hoping to achieve.

Boys and girls, install one thing at a time. I'm reverse engineering it now. I'm definitely not a blip for brap guy, I'm all about waves. But I live in Ohio, so its 40 ft sea rays, gale warnings, or doing subs for hot babes on the beach.

Since I have a stock x cylinder on the bench, would that get me to what I want? It needs resleeved, but maybe I just dont need porting for what I enjoy doing out there.

Try a 760 cylinder.

Get a good rider. That learned from a 550 to a am hull. Like gomez. And they can make any ski do anything. He shreds a 550 harder than most ride their dasa turned 30k pile of parts. Can't buy skill. Can't buy tray time. And definitely can't buy experience. And it seems alot of people never pushed themselves hard enough to develop real riding experience. Crying all day at 35 doesn't do dick to progress you. You should be falling off the ski more than your staying on if your trying to learn. Or get comfortable and log onto xh2o

Dude, I don't need to prove my skill set to you or anyone else. started at 300sx remember? Who knows, maybe i'd give you a run for your money on a buoy ride. I'd probably "accidentally" fall to make you feel better on the drive home. OR you eat me up? If you need the win you can have it, "bro"
I freeride. Slash and thrash like a mother. I ride REALLY fast and hard. I like busting bk's balls on college ball, learning poop from wax and all you dudes, frankly. said stupid sh* been banned. regretted, apologized, been humbled, stoked as all hell, I aint got any hate to give brother.
