Personally I dont think posts should be deleted by moderators. Complete out of control stuff should get infractions, but I think the post should stay there for everyone to see. Sometimes its a good thing that the public sees how people are.
I think the drama forum that we had was a good idea. If a thread gets out of control split it, then send the drama to the drama forum. That way if people want to read the drama and get involved they can, and people that dont want the drama can still see the original thread without having to deal with the drama.

A couple of forums that I visit don't delete posts (unless it's too harsh/bad to leave up).
Instead, they add words to the post in bold, or red, big bold letters saying: "User was banned for this post" or "User received infraction for this post".
