Super Jet Pump Set-up 771

No Square..No Round..FX-1
http://www.youtube.com/user/gordonml55?feature=mhsn#p/a/u/1/pqivuKOcMjU I posted this video as a goof on the "go in a straight line fast" thread. Like the details on the video says, 144 mag with a 12-17 1" set back, TS 771. That same engine currently lives in Shawn NJ's SJ. The nozzle is a Pro-tec blaster max flo with a 84.5mm taper bore. Max rpm avg was about 7300 @ WOT, 55mph. How do I know this? I always run a tach to keep a eye on run time and max rpm.

As mentioned above, you will have to experiment with nozzle bore diameters and impeller pitch to get things dialed in for your own boat. My FX is a lot lighter than a SJ.

When I swapped out the 771 for the 827 (TS865), I left the drive line the same for initial testing. The 827 spun the 12/17 like it was a joke.

No offense to you at all but who is the guy recommending this stuff from x-metal? I noticed instant results both on the bottom end and certainly on the top end from my 140 mag pump. My engine builder said to run a 13/18 and I could only find a 14/19 on short notice before daytona but even propped wrong, my mag pump was well worth the money.
Chad, He said for the money I would have to spend on a mag pump it really wouldn't be worth it.

"worth the money" is obviously subjective, but I thought it was well worth every cent I paid for mine.
After reading your thread about getting a Mag pump I had talked myself in to it,money in hand but when a guy tells you something like spending 1k isnt worth it... (I think most of us would agree x-metal are reputable guys)

I know I asked before are you running a 140 mag ??

Mag pump is better no doubt , but for he is looking for a cheaper option right...

I would take a mag set up any day over oem set up, but for now Hooker will have to do
Ive got a stock 144 and will be running a 11/17 Hooker Nozzle bored to 85...I think your running the same set-up

Well $1k for a mag does seem like a lot. However, when you consider a new hooker impeller is $270 shipped, bored nozzle is another $70 shipped, and you could get $150-$175 for your pump in decent condition, you're talking closer to $500 for a mag pump with prop after you factor in the money you have to spend and the money you could get for your parts. $500 for a mag pump will be a big difference and an excellent bang for you buck!! Granted, if you buy the recommended mag pump from xmetal at $2120 plus a $200 wear ring, then they are absolutely right that it "isn't worth the money".

PS - I just sold my pump in good condition with a 2 year old 9/15 hooker impeller and stock pump cone for $375 plus shipping and had another guy ready to drive 2 hours to come get it if the first guy fell through.

I kept talking to Pat Bogart about a Mag when I was building my Matrix and he kept saying over and over again that the Mag just wasn't worth it, it was alot of money for the gains, the stuffer was good enough and on and on. Meanwhile everyone else that had switched over couldn't say enough about how much better the Mag was. When I mentioned to Pat later that I had gone ahead and purchased a 144 Setback he immediately said to me, "You won't regret it, the mag is definately the way to go."

X-scream is so bent on pitching their system as affordable, they don't even drop the pitch when a customer has the dough to go for the extras.

P.S. Pat also told me to run a 13/18 in mine but the 14/19 works incredibly well.

when i bought my team scream motor they told me the same thing about not getting a mag but a tbm stuffer (aka pixie dust)

team screan say this as its lower cost, if your dropping big bucks into a motor then have to drop big bucks on a pump you may not buy the motor.... i think we need to remember that they are in sales too

if you talk to them some more you will find they actually say the best set up is with a mag pump

in regards to props i was told a different pitch each time i spoke to them, the most consistant was a 14/19 with either the stuffer or mag

I love Xmetal but I dont understand how Impors can sell a Mag pump for 1100 and xmetal is 2100, I also dont understand how pretty much everybody loves the hooker but xmetal doesn't recommend them, I hear that they are harder on the engine but I dont fully understand this pump stuff yet and i have been reading! lol
