Putting your ski in the bed of your truck

Hi folks,

I'm looking for options on what I should do in the short term for hauling my ski around in the bed of my truck. I have a Ford Ranger.

I wouldn't think just tossing it into the bed in the back would be a good idea for the bottom of the hull, considering it can teeter back and forth while driving around.

Whats a good cheap way to secure it while I drive? I'm just looking for something short term. I figure I'll buy or build a rack to set up in the back at the end of the summer. I'm just looking for something to get me through this summer that won't cost a lot.

Thanks in advance!

It does not hurt the bottom I have been hauling mine that way for awhile.
I have a bed liner and slide into the back of my hoop d 2x4 nissan truck with beach cart and use a racheting tie down.If you have a 4x4 it could be a problem due to the different heights.I walk the beach cart down the ramp to launch and I use the racheting tie down to attach the beach cart to the back of my truck to tow it up the ramp to the wash area.Your pfd pads the beach cart where cart meets ski. There are parking advantages. Good luck!

I have ratchet tie downs also. Also bought some rope.

I have a spray in bed liner, so it's not smooth. I figured it would act like sandpaper on the bottom of the hull.

Thanks for the reply!

Nothing wrong with using the bed of your truck. If you have a bedliner that's awesome, but if not no worries. just throw on a couple of straps and back that beast into the lake (if you have 4X4)

search your local classifieds for a non running older model ski thats cheap and buy it for the trailer. then sell off whatever is good on the ski and it will make the the trailer free.

So I've been looking around online and I don't see a Wally World. I see lots of places selling pool noodles (lol, thats such a funny word...) but I want ones like you have in the picture. They look star shaped and not just rounded.

Where is this Wally World you speak of? All I can think of is National Lampoons. :p

I know I don't need them - but it'll make me feel better knowing my ski has something soft a cushy supporting it. That way I won't feel as bad when I try to break it in the water. ;)

I guess I'm going to Walmart tonight. I have some other shopping to do anyway.

My neighborhood appears to be completely addicted and cracking out on those goofy solar-powered lawn lights. They're like $4 each.

i've down it with 4 ratchets straps...... works fine.... made the trip down and back from daytona and all around florida in january with a ski in the bed of the truck... no issues what so ever

You could put a piece of plywood in the back of your truck as a smooth surface for it. Then use a ratcheting strap(but not ratcheting, the ones that are clips that hold about 300 lbs) and go from back cleat to nose ring to other back cleat. Here's a picture of how i unload jetski

Doesn't look like he's backing into salt water, so probably no. It gets that wet when it rains. I wouldn't suggest this in salt water for obvious reasons, and make sure your rear end vent is in good shape (routed way up into fender and higher than the water will ever get to) or you'll water log your axle and that will be big $$$$ for a rebuild.

Just don't ride your ski into the bed I learned the hard way by smashing out the back window. OEM window was $700 lol
