question about time for a 62t case

Well i think you know what i think... lol

Maybe the shop had a 2hour minumum labor charge?
But maybe they really did go throughly through it and it did take em well over an hour, but i dont know. Perhaps you had some of the crazy dirty cases!

i'm upset:angryfire:

i was charged for 2hr's worth of work at $95 per hr totaling a wapping $190.00 for the disassembly and assembly of the bottom end!

and what makes it even worse i'm on a very tight collage budget

did i get riped?

I don't think so. A mechanic that does this for a living has to make something and to do it right and clean up old sealant might easily take a couple of hours. I'm assuming they had to remove your coupler as well. Too much money if it was a buddy helping you, but maybe not so bad for a shop. You may be able to see if there is a time spec for that job and see what the book calls for. Doesn't sound too unreasonable though.

let see, go ahead and name the shop, you have already spouted off a dozen times who was doing the work for you.............. but lets list the work that had to be done so everybody knows exactly what had to be done here.

Bottom end was delivered to said shop with the coupler still attached, the flywheel was still on there, stator plate and probably the engine cradles......

So guys, re-do your calculations on the bases of removing the flywheel, stator, coupler and bed plates......... seperate cases, clean up cases and case the threads....... install new crank and seals, apply sealant, bolt up cases and torque, install bedplate, install coupler, install stator and set timing, put a new flywheel key on it, clean and lube bendix install flywheel...............

15 minutes, not hardley...................

About 2 hours for a quality job then.

funny thing, just yesturday I got word that a contractor we deal with was pissed that we had not sent him a price on a huge condo flooring job, this came from my Boss's daughter who shares shop space with the decorator for the job, So, my boss calls asking when I will be done with it, "I have not even started, this contractor has not even called me about pricing it", lets just say I was pissed........... fast forward to this morning, the contractor returns my call, I ask him about the job, and is he ticked at us, he says, "No, not at all, I would call if there was a problem, but you need to call Judd (Son) and talk to him, he is the project manager".............now can we say really pissed..........

Moral of the story............ Give all the information before you start spreading rumours and innuindo's............. give all the facts............

agreed i did not say teh flywheel or bedplate was on there. its was a completed bottom end.

how i'll restate my question.
how long does it take to dissemble and reassemble the bottom end?

done right, 1.5-2 hours...............

But you still did not list what all the bottom end was.............. it could be a stipped bottom end alone or with everything installed on it including the cover........

If it was cases alone, coupler and flywheel removed, starter removed, then probably around an 1 to 1.5 hrs. done correctly, depending on how clean or dirty the cases were.

I would take 2 hours to do it right - removal and reinstallation of stator, flywheel, coupler, timing, cleaning, etc...

allrighty well i was upset b/c you guys said it would take 30mins to an Hr's and first now your saying its 2hr's.

and i did do the most of the engine work. i did not have the right size wrench or puller to remove the flywheel so i had that done in shop. i jess i should have asked how long it would take and what they charge per hr. i assumed just to unscrew a few bolt and torwk it back down allong with cleaning wouldn't cost 95 dollars an hr. my mistake, i was more warried about the porting and other things getting done (WICH i love and done PERFECT) that i just asked to have the crank thrown in there was a last second thing, that i dident really plan on, nor did i plan on it costing $95... as thats why i spent 2 days in my garage puting everything ealts back in. its not that i couldn't do it, its i assumed it would cost maby $100 for the work. or i would have done it myself.

and the reason i was getting upset was not at the builder and his work, ( the work is perfect) it was b/c 10+ people said it would only take 30mins to an hour to do.
