Rattle can paint job. Need tips

Im in the process of painting my sn superjet.
Iv got it apart. And have begun sanding the whole ski with 320grit sand paper.

I plan on using the rustoleum stainless appliance epoxy for the top and black for the bottom. Or there abouts, havnt decided.

Can someone enlighten me how many cans of paint it took to do a ski?
Search turned up empty.

About 3 cans of the appliance stuff. But be careful those tips suck with runs but that paint is the best to stay on abd not fade. I used tips off different cans but still sanded after first coat.

You mean the tips like the spray tips? Where the paint comes out?

So lots of light coast with sanding inbetween?

Yeah it just all depends on can I guess. Some clot when it comes out some do not. Just know it will never be a job a gun can do. I honestly if I did it over again I would go buy a cheap harbor freight gun and do it.

Ok, then yes. Im looking to jump logs.

I have a narrow budget. My options are leave it as is. Or spray paint it.
I would like to use that fushion?...fashion? Chameleon paint. But its outta budget.
I would need the whole shebang. Guns, compressor, hose, ect. And I have no friends before someone asks.

That's where all the money is going. I got a Wetjet Kraze 61x, with the SBN46. And am shopping for a b-pipe.

Hence the Rattle can paint job. Iv seen people have good success with them. Figured I would try that route.
Also, My js550 hulls are all in similar shape to this superjet. It is downright uncomfortable after a few hours with all the fiberglass shards in my arms. Itches for hours.

Long sleeve shirt and lotion. Followedo by a cold shower helps. Wet sanding will help too. Google roll and tip painting.

It's a SN. Rattle the hell out of it. You can get great results. Watch YouTube for techniques. I personally like to lay several very super light coats when I rattle can so that it leavea a matte looking textured finish. And then on the final pass I get really close and lay it thick. It's a technique between a nice gloss finish and runs in the paint.

Will it come out nicer than a low pressure gun, obviously not, but from 10 feet away you can't tell the difference. I have found one of the nicest parts of a rattle can beater hull is when (not if) you get a blemishe you can bust out the can and touch it up.

Good luck with whatever you decide

I would say 4 cans would be a good start. I have the bottom my ski done with the black Rustoleum appliance epoxy and it took about 2. I've had good luck with that stuff so long as you use thin coats. It takes a while to fully dry but once it does it holds up pretty well.

I used the appliance epoxy on my fx1. I also sanded with 320. The paint goes on like a dream for being a rattle can. However, on the very first ride the paint started peeling off in sheets. I was told it was because I should have sanded with something more like 80 or 100 grit. Not sure if that's true but I plan to re do it this winter. Let us know how your experience goes.

Damn, Im currently sanding with 320 grit. Ill try and post updates if I ever get around to actually painting.
I guess Ill get 3 of each type of can. I was going to do the bottom in black and the top stainless steel.

Ill seriously consider upping the paint to a legit kind.
But for now. Its summer, I just want the damn thing in the water. So all my money is going into that portion. Since its already stripped down, I might as well hit it with something, anything.

I didn't mean that the paint is bad I just meant I probably won't stick unless you rough it up more. At least on the bottom deck becuase of the insane amount of water pressure it faces.
