Thinking of rattle canning. Easy touch up etc... What paints do you guys recommend?

Thanks
Jay

you can get it at home depot or lows, it's epoxy based paint, used for appliances such as refrigeraters. black or white

this is exactly what i used on my white superjt (used to be blue) and used black on the hood of my HX, friend also used black on his square nose. works real well for just rattle canning it. yes, it will scratch (if you scrape it up against something with an edge) but just normal riding, you'll be fine.

Appliance epoxy is nice stuff. Expect to pay at least $30-$40 in spray paint and also expect to have to touch it up fairly regurlarly. It's not the best thing in the world but it will work if you don't have any other options.

yea, if youre going to rattle can, rustoleum makes the best spraying cans and the material seems to hold up very well... if you lay it thick enough you can even sand and polish it

rattle cans work great. my ski usually gets beat up in about a year anyway and would need repainted no matter what kind of paint it has on it. I have seen some very nice paint jobs with rattle cans. i use about six coats, wet sand with 1000, buff and wax..

any paint works well if applied right. I use just plain old KRYLON..

I've had good luck with Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel. If you put it on thick enough it ends up real glossy with no sanding or buffing needed, just wax and go. If you screw up the finish you can always fix it by doing this tho. They said this type is resistant to gas, but if you spill some on it you will have to rewax. Not sure if that is because of the wax or the paint but it's not a big deal. It holds up to scratches and chips as good as the oem yami smc paint if not better. I have seen it attack and peel up the oem paint so I always strip that off first.

Here are some sample pics, the red part of the hood is shown as sprayed, the black was color sanded and polished:

We found this to be true when we painted the inside of the Lemons car. One $5 can of Rustoleum had more coverage than 5 can's of $.99 generic white paint. Less runs too.

I have a better idea...

Interlux Brightside paints... $34 shipped to my house from James Town Dist.

This was brushed on with a CHEAP turf' brush. Self leveled in most areas. Using a nicer brush would have been better, but I was in a hurry...

Held up great! Have since sold this hull, otherwise I would have changed the color every year for kicks.

Rattle canning skis is easy just dont dump any gas on it LOL.

lol...one thing i learned was is that you can't use acetone on them like you can the stock paint lol...

repainted a handlepole, sanded it down nice, was planning on hitting it with acetone and then throwing another coat on....yeah, lets just say that didn't work out and i had to start from scratch.

Its because rattle can paint is basically more or less the same as autobody paint without the hardener.

Its the hardener catalyst in auto body paint that makes it much harder, more durable, and solvent resistant.

I used that stuff many times.... flows out really well and melts in like you would never believe... by far the best paint out of a can, besides the pro applications that I have used.. That stuff is very beefy too, would not scratch easy and dried very hard

also, the "American Tradition" brand that Lowes sells is the best applicator of this paint. It sprays out cleaner than the others I have used.. Just DO NOT buy the Krylon brand of this stuff... IT SUCKS!!!!
