uhh...anybody reading this thread is probably not caring too much about looking good. if they did they'd get a $2500 blowsion paint job.

we just dont want to look like that rusty old van of the sea:

Here is wut I did, cleaned hull real good, sanded with 600 for about 30 minutes total, wiped down w/acetone, 2 cans of primer, wetsanded w/1000 for about 15 minutes, wiped down w/acetone again, 2 cans of appliance epoxy black, waxed the crap out of the sides to get a glowing finish.

disclaimer-it has not been in the water yet and may all fall off the 1st time I gas it. lol

Thank you. And my point, although poorly made, was that I'd rather sink money into performance rather than "looks".

The "big boys" with sponsors etc.... have to look good.

Average joes, such as me, don't need "pretty", unless that's "all" they want.
Looks don't help you ride better.

I am living proof of that!

nothing better than an aftermarket hull, billet cylinder and a rattle can paintjob!

Ill probably change it up after daytona, its getting scuffed up but has held great for over a year!

All I wanted to say is that Rustoleum spray-bombs are the bomb.

We all know that Yamaha has a serious issue when it comes to the factory paint on the engine covers. Spray cans are a quick fix, and get you back in the water a.s.a.p.

How bad does this run, when doing it on the sides, etc..?
Also, how many coats/layers did you have to apply, and did it hold up decent to chipping and exposing the paint underneath? Did you apply it all at once, or do a little and wait, etc..?
Sorry for the thousand questions. This brush on stuff is interesting. I had totally decided on the spray bomb appliance paint, but may go this way.

I think I have three coats into this... by the time I was done with one coat, where I had started was already tacky so I would start the second coat (I was in a warmer basement). Sides of the ski were fine. Did all the coats at once. My only issue with running was on the hood where the handle pole galley is (which you can't see when the pole is down anyway). I applied the paint to thick in that area.

There was no paint underneath - I sanded the glossy finish off the stock upper deck then brushed. It is a teflon based paint - overall held up great. The couple scratches that did occur was from me dropping tools on it, etc. Touches up in a second.

how does that brush on shil hold up to scrapes and chips?

great! see above.

Krylon Fusion - or Krylon H2O spray bombs, I used both on different hulls - rolled ski over on side/top - Light sanding and wipe down with thinners and two / three coats of white - lasted very well even with a few beachings.
