Reed or carb failure?

So I have never had either of these fail while riding so I am not sure what happens if and when they do.....

Yesterday I barely made it back to the ramps. I was riding and then she just fell on her face. I have good compression and good spark....

It starts and idles no problem....just can't give her anything at all or she falls.

I'll pull the carbs and intake today but just trying to get some thoughts here!

Usually broke reed doesn't idle smooth and it spits fuel backwards out the carb. If reeds are good, may have had something come loose/fail inside the carb.

I'm having a similar issue, but mine started occasionally and slowly got worse. I was thinking throttle shaft was leaking air, but the WD40 test didn't change anything. I'm still going to pull it out and check for wear, because I still think that's my issue. From searches I found that other people on this site who've had this issue fixed it by replacing the coil or plug wires. I have a spare and that didn't work for me, but it's something to think of if you have one to try before ordering the throttle shaft rebuild kit.

No my bad....it tries to rev but falls flat instantly. I am out here now. Plugs seem a little wet/rich but I have a clean new set here and same symptoms.

Which is sudden onset of fall on face bog right of idle. Starts and runs nice though and everything looks great.

Make sure both butterfly’s open together at the same time, check the screen filters behind the fuel pumps…. May have a running ignition issue with cdi or stator or stator has come loose and sent a hold down bolt flying…. Also make sure your exhaust outlet hoses and not delaminated on the inside and your water box didn’t break a baffle and block the outlet…

good luck……

note: I had a cdi fail and cause a throttle issue, idle fine but won’t accelerate and make power…

I'd look for an electrical issue. Harbor has some good ideas.

Does applying throttle make it die? That would imply it's not the throttle, if the throttle cable was broken applying throttle would do nothing, no?

You’re right but they are suggesting linkage, meaning one carb would open and the other wouldn’t.
I was suggesting throttle shaft wear. Lets air in through the side of the carb when you pull on the throttle. Much less obvious than the linkage. The wet plugs don't make it seem like that though.

Yes applying throttle kills it! Just got home again getting back at it.....thanks for the ideas.... pulling OE arrestor and checking that first...

I hope it is not a stator plate bolt!

Can't come off idle at all just bogs instantly. Eventually stalls out if I hold her wide open. Never even thinks about gaining in R's.

I think???? But man it is behaving like a bolt somehow wiggled out past my stock screen....????? I'll keep digging!
