Review of Full spectrum 49s VS Novi 48s

Unfortunately i got the opportunity to test both the new full spec 49s and new novi 48s.

Ski specs
1000cc dasa billet motor
Total loss
148 mag pump
Power factor pipe

I received the 49s and put them on my setup and the ski just wouldn't respond well and didnt have the power of what a 1000cc should. I took the ski to a very very good engine and ski builder that is know all over the freestyle industry. (I do not want to disclose his name). Either way, we rejetted the carbs and did different things and it still never ran right. It ran better but not right.

Couple weeks go by, receive a set of 48 novis and put them on. There is a night and day difference!!! these things are amazing!!! I willl never run another set of full specs! the ski had so much power! I could idle up to my setup wake and pull a plate to plate backflip. They are super easy to tune also. messed with the screws for a minute and it was good to go!

Enough said!

So did Ed have your engine specs when you ordered the Full Specs? Did you call him and ask how to set them up for your engine? Were they second hand Full Specs or built just for your setup?

Built for my application by Ed. brand new purchased/sponsorship from Ed directly.

+1.

I'm not at your level of riding, but I have novi-tec (just a single 48), brand new, a friend of mine has dual full spec 49's. the novi rips, found sweet spot in 20 minutes, the FS are hard to get 'just right'. don't know what it is...

definitely a novi-tec fan here.

I'm having mega-watt trouble getting my single 49 Full Spec tuned. I've got the mid and top hitting pretty good, but the bottom just off idle is crappy! I've tried both lean and rich settings and can't seem to find the right mix!! Whenever i get it dialed in I'd like to compare it to Novi's...I passed on them based on advice from others and hearing this makes me say "Hmmm."

If I was sponsored by a company I would not come on the internet and state how inferior the sponsored product is performing. This only makes prospective sponsors stay away from sponsoring anybody. Even if it was at a discounted price it is still some form of sponsorship. What if the difference is more due to jetting. I can't see a big difference in air flow between the two brands. It is air flow what makes the power, and it is fuel delivery (jetting) what makes response. Others have tried to compare the two brands and most won't say that it is a night and day difference. It just does not make sense. I have my ideas but I will stay out of it.

Because of Ed I lost half of the season riding and competing. Also lost out on over 1000 dollars from doing shows. I want to warn everyone i know to stay away from them. I feel that Ed scammed me. sponsor or not that is wrong!!!

When i called and asked Ed his advise on what jets to use he told me " i dont know, just put in jets to make it rich or lean and figure it out YOURSELF from there." thats not a very good sponsor.

I am just stating my opinion of the two companies and my opinion is that Novis rocked my socks off and my arms are still sore from trying to hold onto the ski.

Oh, and by the way... if you didnt know, a sponsorship goes both ways :eek5:

Ok, so I hear Novis over and over again. Good, lets separate the crap from the good stuff. I think it is great to hear an opinion from a PRO! But, are we talking about all Novi models? E.g. do the older ones that do not cost like a fortune per piece perform better than others (e.g. Full specs used ones). Chip in guys!

I have a feeling you are conveniently leaving out some of the story.

I've used Novi D booster 48 carbs on my limited sxr. They were very easy to tune & hit hard. Tim at Novi gave me the jet specs & they were spot on.
I've never used full specs so I can't comment on them

now why would you say something like that?! that parts i am leaving out are the parts that make Ed look even worse...

This is a review of the two carbs and I think/know Novis performed much better in my application. that is what a review is. Sorry if you dont like it.

I heard you and Ed had a falling out whether it was over carb performance or something else I really don't know and don't care.

I have a set of 49's from Ed on a 727 and they are nuts. Great response and the specs he gave me are in the pocket. I paid full retail for mine and I'd buy another set for the same price.

I have rode some of the new novitec's on a buddies SXR and they were nice as well.

Ed is a very smart man, he makes great products imo. You are entitled to your opinion, but I think there is info that is not being shared as well.

and then sometimes, somethings just don't work with some setups as good as others...and that can go both ways.

I fought a pair of Novi 48's a few years back, I had a funny setup that was hard to dial in. Between Tim and some members on here I eventually got it running great but in the meantime I lost an entire season, 3 top ends and a crank. If I had the money at the time I would have given up on the carbs and tried something else too. I'm still a Novi fan to this day.

It makes no difference to me. I run and love Blackjacks. It's just I've never read anything bad about Ed, and I'm sure he didn't just give you a full sponsorship and then act like a complete asshole. There is something you aren't tell us.

There is absolutely no reason to turn this into a personal pissing match.
Jared posted a review.
There is nothing wrong with that.

If you want to read dirt on Ed (or ANYBODY for that matter), just search long enough. Especially on PWCT.

It's just odd that the guy comes in here bashing his sponsor with absolutely no supporting story. It makes him look like an ass. He even still has Full Spectrum in his sig as a sponsor.

Hey, I am not gonna say you got a bad set of carbs or that you could not tune them. Both companies make good carbs.

But over the years I have learned something about 2 of the carb builders (Ed and Art), if you call either up for advice even if it is not their carbs, those 2 men will bend over backwards for you. I really have a hard time believing that Ed said, just go try some different jets. He may have said just that, but I would bet that he also had a whole lot more to say to help out. I remember the first time I really heard much about Ed, Tricky had just picked up his first set (Used) He called Ed up, Ed asked who he got them from, Jason told him, plus what setup he was running. Ed said to drill out one of the holes that he had soldered closed (circuits) and what jets, NS and spring to run plus screw adjustments. He was spot on, Jason barely had to adjust anything.

Glad you got your ski going with Novi's both are great carbs. Both builders are good at what they do.
