Blaster Rick's Detailed 1100 Blaster Conversion

Amazing build thread you have put together Rixter! I've got a Blaster that I want to covert to an 1100 or 1200 but I'm not sure what motors will work and what is best. I know you've explained why you chose the ZXI 1100 but do you know if the STX 1100 would work as well? I've done some research but didn't come up with much. Sounds like the motor is the same but the e-box and stator might be different? Any thoughts would be great guys, thanks!

Thanks Lando.

I chose the Kawi 1100 motor, not necessarily the ZXI. That was just the ski that became available when I was looking for a donor ski. The ZXI 1100 and STX 1100 have the same motor. If an STX 1100 was for sale at the right price, I would of just taken it. STXs are usually more expensive since they are 3 seaters with reverse throttle, which is more appealing to couch riders than a simple two seater.

Honestly, I dont know of any differences between the two skis in terms of a donor for the conversion. The STX just has more stuff you throw away than the ZXI..lol The STX might have a few gauges or dash which makes the ebox slightly different, but you can see for the purposes of a Blaster conversion most of the wiring out of the ebox is removed.

Just to recap my reasons for the Kawi 1100 vs the Yamaha 1200:
#1 reason - Conversion plate for Kawi 1100 allows to shift the motor back (rear) 2 inches which improves handling. Today however, they make Yamaha conversion plates which allow shifting the motor back (Etreeme Throttle)
#2 reason - Pipe from a Kawi is smaller, lighter and can be modified into a tunable dry pipe. Can't do this on a Yamaha pipe.
#3 reason - You can upgrade the Kawi motor: with 3 degree timing advance (free), 44mm mikuni carbs, 4 degree timing plate

Hope this helps

Thanks Rixter that was a huge help! I might hold off on the STX thats up for sale and wait for a ZXI to pop up just in case there's some unknown differences. Plus the STX thats for sale has low compression and I dont feel like tearing into the motor right off the bat. Hopefully I find one before winter hits so I can start the build! Thanks again for the detailed write-up... this will be very helpful for me in the future!

Just blew my 3rd hi-temp silicone coupler from the stock dried exhaust to waterbox.
First time in two years but I think the 120 jet in my stinger needs to be increased for more flow.
It only happens when I go wot too long.

Why didnt you use the adjustable valve I installed on my build? It's so much easier than trying to swap out jets.

Thanks to Brownie I now have a ZXI1100 sitting in my garage! 125 psi in all 3 holes! Can't wait to start this project come winter time! I've never done a project this in depth but I think I can handle it! Redoing my SuperJet went pretty quick and flawless so it gives me enough confidence to be dangerous with the Blaster! Thanks again for the build thread Rixter this will be very helpful for a noob like myself!
