Ok, Slowly recovering. I will probably do a separate Review Thread also. This will be short and sweet.
First Ride out as soon as I got out past the breakers I figured out the pole was a bit on the long side. I had actually slid it out sunday before I took it to the lake. In lake conditions the pole at this point was comfortable. But in the surf, Well, my back was hurting pretty bad and had severe arm pump. To the point that I was not comfortable really trying anything. Also needed to tighten up the pole. Holding it up was killing my back as well. So, I just played with the waves, some re-entries etc etc. But still did not feel one with the ski. I did suck it up and went for a roll. Not really attacking the wave or anything, just wanted to feel how he rolled. My Freak rolled ok. would have been better with the pole shorter but I absolutely hated it with the pole shorter than it was. Just not comfortable all leaned over the hood. But the rolls were not really fast. So I lazily went up to a nice sized wave and just cranked the bars. Next thing going through my mind was "Uh, is this thing going to over rotate?" Holy crap this hull spins fast!!!!! So, I did another and did not go as fast up the wave and it still spun fast. Do not know if the new Thrust OVP steering had any effect on this or not. But Holy Crap. Cannot wait to try a flat water roll.
So, we came in and gassed up. Ski and bodies!!!!! Shortened the pole an inch, Tightened the pole and adjusted the footholds . As soon as we got back out I knew immediately that this setup was much better. Immediately started attacking waves doing re-entries. Absolutely amazing. You break off the wave, launch land in the whitewash and the ski just says "Ok, where to next" It does not get pushed around or anything like the Freak did. So after a while I decide to go for a flip. The tide is going out and really shallow so I was timid about where I will try a flip. Go out to were it is a bit deeper and watch for a wave. Pick out one and go for it. Well, At this point I am thinking "poop, I am going to land severely inverted. This may hurt a bit!.............. But it keeps rotating and then the nose hits and goes under for a second and next thing I notice is I am riding away from it". Hmmmmmmmm. Never landed a flip on the Freak like this. This was like butter. Smooth as can be. With the Freak, as soon as you hit it acts like a Cork. I get why people said they land hard. I was thinking like flat landing "Smack". (disclaimer. I was yelling and hollering it up!) Few minutes later went for another....... Same Result. I realize the Freak starts rotating quick, The Edge just seems to climb and smoothly starts rotating. More of a controlled rotation. Not sure how to really explain it. Other than "Smooth as butter!" Every Flip was the same. Think I bumped bottom once. Did I mention this thing flies on Re-Entries? What a freaking blast those are.
I did attempt a nose stab. I use to be a nose stab king until I learned rolls. Then my stabs went to poop. even in surf.......... Well, Lets just say I got some practice to do.. Had to be one of the ugliest stabs and most painful ones ever.
Loaded up after burning through 10 gallons of gas. And started the 8 hour drive back home!!!!!!!!! I must be nuts. The Hugo Crew is going off again this weekend and I would be down if not heading to the inlaws. Stay tuned for a review thread of the hull and build along with parts and suppliers reviews.
