Anyski will out rail a freak. Thats about only drawback to a SF. It would be fun to see someone really good a racing ride a freak around a tight course. I like being proved wrong ;)

Not sure if I understand the objective of this thread clearly. If you rode both hulls why are you asking us what YOU prefer? Or are you asking us what we prefer? o_O

Funny you should say that I know of a superfreak and edge that might want to do battle on a buoy course. You know who you are and I have buoys!

I know some believe it's all the shape of the ski that gives you pop, but once you are used to a light ski and the effortless feeling of rolls and flips, it's hard to go back to a heavy one. I know surf is a different story, but even small surf, I would much rather have a carbon ski!

Just wanted others opinions. Been a year since I rode an Edge. If I was buying something, it would be what I call a freeride hull. These 2 really are the only two that really fall into this catagory. (Freak -4.3). I have no use for a ski that rides really nose high nor one that is designed for back flips only.

There are quite a few more hulls out there that fit into what you are looking for.....

@Big Kahuna ....what about the new TigerCraft SV1? Seems like it could fit your wants and needs. I haven't ridden one, but I have read all the reviews and sounds like it's a great all around ski that can do it all.

I'm pretty sure the reason the SF turns flat is because of the wide keel but it makes for fun sliding on the face of waves and quick adjustments in the critical section of the waves. On FW it will throw 360 sliding spins easy. I have even seen Lucas slide a 360 on the face of a wave. Definitely a fun easy riding hull.

who buys a freak to rail corners alone. it does suck for that. the edge would do better on that. but everything else the freak does better is because it doesn't rail hard ... tubbies help. and cutting the rear bond rail up a bit.
so tell us what the sv1 does better than a bot

This has been interesting to watch this thread.l am very opinionated on my SF's,not rode an edge but will in a couple weeks. Then l will be able to give my two cents.

My most favorite SF was the -2 that MasterB bought.l believe it was 68 +- when l was done building.Light in the surf, great on the lake.Probably could have used a bit more rocker in the rear when It was made, but Tem felt like it was the best for my riding. And that was one of the best things about a badass, you could have it built with several different options for whatever you wanted to use it for.
Drawbacks are the finish requirements.Lots, but always well worth it in the end.

I'll let you know BK on the ricktor

sano, this truly is the most fun hull ive ever ridden in the surf in my life. I rode almost every hull out there for 2 years and put up with a heavy sj before going with your old sf. built to the hilt btw...Great combo ski for the surf, lake and wakes. Not so great for freestyle flips, but that wasnt important to me. This hull skies out huge flips off small wakes better and with less effort than many other shorter and heavier hulls. A lil more rocker in the rear would have been even better im sure though. What was your impression of the circus and havoc in the surf in comparison?

You back yet?

After riding a preditor in the surf a bit more. It's a toss up for best surf hull. It's amazing. Not as much fun on wakes in flat. But if they made one a little lighter and put a removable front bond rail on it I'd get one. Can't deal salt spray in the face whole ride

@Big Kahuna I've ridden a few different -4.3 Freaks in the past and always loved them so I'm going to be biased.

That being said I got a chance to ride a -4.3 Titan Sunday evening at the finals and then a Rickter Edge Monday morning at Body Beach. Having the Freak fresh in my mind and then jumping on the Edge was exactly what I wanted inorder to have a good comparison. Long story short , I preferred the Freak.

To me the hull is just a little more intuitive. I will say that the Edge was a great ski and all kinds of fun. It railed corners much better than the freak, but was also harder to make it do power 360's for example (the edge had the rear sponson things on). I think the Edge's hood might hold up better to someone crawling all over it doing hood tricks as well (old school tricks are still fun). That being said if I was ordering a freak I would probably just ask for the hood to be made a little stronger.

Has anybody ever done hood tricks on a freak? Care to report how well the hull did?
