Rickter Edge Vs Superfreak Badass -4.3

It was weighed against my -2 Freak, they were extremely close. I don't think I still have pictures.

My carbon edge weighs 289 ready to ride with a full tank of fuel (4.5 gallons). Had a carbon superfreak on the same scale and they weighed within a couple pounds of each other. Neither skis were full of fuel the time but both had about half a tank. Doing the math that puts both skis weighing about 260 with no fuel. Sounds about right, they both have heavy solas pumps.
A badass could be built to weigh a couple pounds less than a carbon edge for sure but neither are dedicated flat water hulls so a couple pounds should not be a major deciding factor on buying one over the other.
I agree....But most SF's I see are in the 50 to 60 lb range, I dunno if I've seen a Comp ninja come in near those weights.

And a comp Ninja comes with hood seal, hood hooks, turf, footholds, gunwale padding, great paint and clearcoat, and a pole bracket.
But I wouldn't ride it in the surf, the new Edge however is amazing IMO!

For what it's worth my edge hull weighed 75 pounds as it came from rickter. That includes; hood, paint, foot holds, turf and pole bracket.
A fiberglass fs2 is about 30 pounds heavier according to the same scale. A fr is supposedly about 10-15 pounds heavier than a fs

I have ridden both of these hulls and don't own either one so my opinion is far from bias. Both hulls I've ridden with different engine configurations as well (big and small). I only ride surf and I only ride surf stance so a tray isn't going to be what I base my opinion off and it isn't going to influence my focus on the hulls handling (although I do think the Badass tray is too wide). I love a ski that'll rail turns which is definitely the Superfreak's drawback but there is usually a trade off in hull design and what type of ride you're looking for. The Edge's handling with a small engine felt very sluggish and boring. Felt like a much bigger ski than it actually was. The Superfreak having more rounded chines, strakes and a bigger keel makes it more loose and nimble feeling even with a small engine which can be fun and is likely why it is good for doing rolls as well. I rode Mark Gomez' Edge with a Dasa 1000 and tubbies... That hull felt much better and I could feel the handling and potential being much better with the tubbies. I owned a -2" Carbon Superfreak Badass with rear rocker and liked it but wanted something with tighter handling that'll hold a line on the face of a wave better so I got an Aquabot and loved it which is how the Edge has kinda been setup as. If I had to setup another Superfreak I'd want it to be a heavier glass layup for better handling to keep it in the water and let those strakes do their job rather than skimming the surface and also not land so hard from airs or slashing steep lips... and I'd put tubbies on it. I like running a 701 so my choice would be the Superfreak. The Rickter just felt boring with a 701. If I had a billet stroked motor sitting on a bench (which I know you don't) it may be a harder decision. Any hull can be modified to suit your needs in some ways and I'm sure I could make either one into a hull that I enjoy riding. But with a sub 800cc engine setup I think the Freak is the better choice for fun factor

Great Post Jamie, and one of the more informative. I am farther now from knowing what I want than I was before. Biggest drawback on the SF is that I just do not want to go through the work of building it from scratch. Way more work than I want to deal with. Everybody's life is different. My work week is 6am til 5pm. Many days when I get home I am just mentally wiped out. I really do not want to spend a few hours each day for god knows how many weeks just prepping a hull. I would rather spend that time with my daughter. Nor do I want to paint. Or deal with fitment issues either. Not opposed to one that is already been set up. Had a great chance to get the Green one that Tricky built years ago, it was perfect, but it sold last daytona. Not an option at the time. "That the one that got away!". The biggest plus with the Edge is that it is plug and play. The 16 is suppose to be even better. Who knows. May just go back to original plan and build up a stock class Superjet for racing and play.

Jamie great break down. I've always felt tray is too wide and rear bond rails are wayyyy to wide. I'd love to cut them down and add tubbies to it. But my work schedule is even worse than bk. Unless your a geeked out garage monkey ski freak looking to occupy some time that doesn't represent money ... a used sf is the only way to go. As a surf hull it's closer match but in some flat water small wake play the sf owns the edge. The predator owns both as 100% surf boat if u don't mind riding with sunglasses and dragging a much heavier ski around on the beach

I bet it was. Scott is the yota of hull setup. He prolly has that thing on rails. I've talked with him a few times about helping me cut the rails back and reshape them on the sf sim to what he did on his other hull. And position tubbies for most airfoil effect. Just don't have time to get to Fl for winters anymore. Wish I did. He is awesome at making something that is good be great

Scott, There was nothing ugly on that. I honeslty did not even notice you had added that there until you mentioned it. You could paint the glass on the underside to match the hull!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nesisity is the mother of invention. I should have known you'd have that fig out now. Rrp had something like that add option for awhile on their old hulls. I haven't noticed the new ish rrp hulls being super spay in the face though. Krash should sell that as a option. The hull turns and rides like a dream in surf I rode the brights predators at Tona and was pretty impressed with them. Not like blown away enough to switch from sf. I think mainly because they felt heavy and sluggy with small motors compared to a carbon sf with large motor I'm use to for small surf . Then we put one together in our group with 1100 et motor and it's ridiculous nice. Feels 50 lbs lighter and nimble fun even with 144 mag and bpipe,enhancer ign

Not sure what size motor Scott had in there, Thinking a SS735. But that hull felt far from heavy. very light feeling. May have been the tubbies that he had just put back on causing this.

Pretty sure Scott still uses xs900 motor that's always felt dialed every time I've ridden it when in matrix. Surprised ole Scott ever rode without tubbies. Then again that hull does already turn crazy fast

I swore I saw an XScream 735 in one of those hulls. May have been Cory's that I am thinking of. He was doing some testing with pump nozzles and tubbies plus prop pitching.
