Rickter Raw Build!

Sorry I haven’t given an update in a while. It’s first trip out I sank the ski because my cooling line fell off and filled the hull with water. Since then I rebuilt my motor from the ground up. New oem crank, pistons, seals and gaskets.

I’ve taken it out a few times to test and tune however I’m still having a problem with the B pipe coupler from the elbow to the expansion chamber. It keeps slipping off. It’s very annoying I’ve had to fix it about 6 times. I’ve ground down my engine mounting plate so it doesn’t touch the pipe and the chamber doesn’t contact the hull. The only thing I can think of is the hose from the chamber to the water box. I think the pipe is to low in the front of the ski which causes the coupler in the back to slip off the top side of the elbow. Has anyone experienced this?

Other than this everything is great and I love the ski!

Are you cleaning the inside of the coupler with carb cleaner before you install it? I clean the headpipe, chamber, clamps and outside of the coupler too. Make sure there is no grease on anything. You could also add foam between the nose of the ski and the waterbox. That will also keep the waterbox and pipe pressing back tward the headpipe and might help your issue. Tbolt clamps work good too

What waterbox are u running and are you strapping it down? Could add a turf block beneath it to raise its height if its a small am box. But after strapping down the box, it should actually compress the chamber into place a bit, at least with the limited chamber it does...

I’m using a stock square nose superjet waterbox with oem straps holding it down so it should be at the right height. I’ve cleaned the pipe really well and it still seems to come off. I’m going to try a thicker hose from the pipe to the water box that has to be it. Mine doesn’t have any holes in it but it does seem weak. Maybe a ticker hose adjusted better will hold the front of the pipe up better. I also plan to get pool noodles to stuff the front of the ski with for floatation but maybe that will prevent things from sliding forward

nice build. i love my fr2! do you have a mod or limited chamber? get a silicone 2.5" to 2" 45degree hose to your waterbox. also the xmetal waterbox fits so much better then sj one. stuff the nose with pool noodles like you said. also make sure you have the skinny hose clamps that go around the coupler from head pipe to chamber, i got mine from jetworks

are you using the coupler that comes with the newer pipes? I bought a new BPipe 2 years ago, the chamber kept sliding off. Got a standard silicone coupler like Factory use to sell, Maniac sells, or a Heavy Duty Truck supply house would have and no issues.

Yes I am using the new coupler that came with the pipe. See the attached picture for the hose I’m using from the pipe to the waterbox. I got it off eBay and it’s not the best quality. It said 2 to 2.5” but the I.D. it’s larger than that. I think this is what’s giving me all my problems. I’m going to play with it more on Monday and hopefully sort everything out.

Just looking at buying one of these.

The dealer is saying it’s more of a cream colour than white, and more like a primer than gel coat.

Would it be ok to run as is or does it definity need painting.

Was thinking of a quite bare graphics kit on it

Cheers

Ride report?

The ski is absolutely amazing! I took it to Brandon at Havasu Watercraft in Escondido Ca and he tuned it to perfection. I have crazy power everywhere now. I really like how it rides in the surf, it turns and spins around effortlessly. I am thinking about putting sponsons and surf fins on it just to help with higher speed turns. Other than that the ski does everything I want it to do. I’m glad I’m finally done working on it and I can just enjoy riding it.

Ya it 100% needs paint. You described it perfectly. The paint process was very easy. My looks really good for a diy job and it only cost around $100 usd.
