RICKTER talk

Surf stance is where it’s at with surf hulls. I really don’t like riding with both feet in the footholds on the Edge, surf stance or nothing.

I’d like to be able to try and back flip it eventually which is why I want to run both back.

I will say this hull is pretty good at staying on the surface though compared to my old round nose. So glad I snagged this thing last winter, this summer has been awesome riding it.

I’ve ridden all season with what I would guess is the short plate (is flush to back of hull). I feel like I battle the back end sinking on me where I have to ride surf stance and have to shift my weight forward, I can never have both feet back. Hence why I’m thinking of going longer plate. For what it’s worth I’m around 205lbs.

What tank are you running? I have the Limited Slip 3.3. Does it ride any better for you with a full tank?

Mine looks like a capped off stock superjet tank, so 5 gallons or so. I wouldn’t want to go smaller as my 950 dasa is thirsty. Completely topped off I don’t notice much. Maybe I’m just being too sensitive to how fat I am??? Lol.

Lol, how long is you handpole? I noticed shortening mine really made me love the ride. I'm at 37 5 inches from pivot bolt to steering bolt.

My ski was built by blowsion by the first owner. I’m guessing it’s the standard blowsion aluminum pole? I do like it’s length for the most part but every so often when I’m out in the surf (Lake Michigan) I think of it was a tad shorter it might feel better, but if I could just get my nose down a bit I wouldn’t notice it, know what I mean? Hence the thinking a longer plate may help me there and I don’t have to think about pulling apart my pole.

Stupid question from a non-Rickter small peanut in the gallery. In addition to weight and height, does the engine power as well as engine weight come into play when considering a longer ride plate (apparently to bring the nose down)?

And will trimming the nozzle down on these skis compensate for a shorter ride plate?

Were there three sizes of ride plate for the fr2? Will the Evo plate fit the original fr2? Will these fit the edge as well?

Thanks for any advice and answers. I've recently gotten into surf riding after a twenty year break and happened into an fr2 yet to be built. I've ridden a friend's fr2 and found it to feel short in the plate with a medium. I'm 200lbs and 6'4". I felt it nose high and sinking in the rear. I can get used to anything but a longer plate may help in the transition.

Hey yaw,

Im getting ready to purchase an XFR and am trying to decide on the layup. I have been emailing a Rickter rep and he is telling me that a Carbon Core XFR would actually be the same weight and strength as a Fiberglass XFR-LT. This just dosen't make sense to me. Why would anyone pay almost $1000 more for Carbon Core when there is no weight savings or strength increase. Does anyone happen to have an approximate weight for a bare Carbon Core XFR?

Also for anyone out there looking for approximate hull weights and having no luck finding them. Here are all the hulls the Rep gave me weights for.
XFR fiber- 128 lbs
XFR-LT fiber 117 lbs
XFS-Carbon core fiber 97 lbs
Xfs Ninja Competition - 77 lbs
XFR-LT Full Carbon - 80 lbs

I was about to to carbon core xfr but got the carbon xfr (80 lbs) instead. I’ve owned the glass xfr (128). Night and day difference the way they ride, both fun.

You’ll be happy with either. 10 pounds is a gallon and a half of gas. Carbon does ride differently, super rigid. Doesn’t cut through chop it sorta skips over like a smooth stone lol

Good luck

Who is the RRP rep you are mentioning? Who do you plan to buy from.

Hmm, My buddy who has a glass Edge-LT kinda said the same thing about the Carbon and didn't think it would be as good for boat chasing or the sometimes choppy conditions we ride in. I haven't had a chance to ride a carbon hull yet, so im not really sure if that would be better or worse. I would imagine the carbon hull would be way more tiring to ride in chop. Since you have had both, which would you prefer more for boat chasing and choppier conditions?

The rep I have been emailing with is Deniz. Pretty sure he is somewhere in Europe. He was who reached out to me when I went through the Rickter site. I figured I would start with them, at the very least to get questions answered. I questioned his statement about the weights of the XFR-LT and Carbon core being the same so it will be interesting to see what he says.

As for who I plan on buying from, I haven't decided yet. I plan on reaching out to Thrust, TC Freeride and Blowsion and see what they can offer me. I have been told some offer free shipping and/or discounts on parts for the build. If so I would certainly take that into consideration.

If you have any recommendations I am open to suggestions.
