Man.. All this talk about injuries is making me worried for this season. Makes me want to not go big and get inverted.
I wear a helmet, sometimes a mouth piece, & am spending a ton of time padding/turfing my footholds so they'll lock me in safely, unlike my last pair did.
So how safe is this sport, really?
Besides the obvious risks like another boat hitting you.(like what happened with hollywood..that sucked :/ ),shallow water etc. I know there are still some danger risks, but nothing like MX & snowcross, etc. I've never heard of anyone breaking their neck or ending up paralyzed due to skis. As long as you don't let go and stay in your footholds, aren't you fairly safe? & I'm more so talking about the risk of inverted tricks & big air. Can't 26mm plush underpad help absorb impact quite a bit as well? I know constant hard landings are terrible on your knees, but that's a given.

Let's not forget the worst, RIP Bruins!

One of my buddies, Seth, now rides with $900 "anti knee extension braces" (keeps your legs from hyper extending). He busted his knee open before on that latch and needed stitches so theres plenty of ways to get hurt. I honestly think we need to wear so much more than a helmet..
Ive knocked my head on the chinpad and broken it doing subs and even pulled my calf muscle in mid air doing a nose stab. No idea how this happened as I didnt hit anything.
I think strecthing before a ride is crucial!

Rehab it at the gym to 100% before doing anything stupid. I just really started rehabbing my torn bicep after 3 months and have a total of 2 1/2 months of rehab before being released back to work. Focus on your entire body. I lost 30+ lbs in 3 months and have a long way to go to be 100%. I don't plan on riding until that point which will hopefully be mid May.
I rehabbed from multiple injuries back in my moto days and it just takes time and dedication. Be smart and you body will like you much more at the end of it. The mental side just takes time on the ski to help you break past the fear. It will come eventually.

Per email request I am attaching the link to Air Cast braces I've been wearing after my 2nd sprain

link to the web: http://www.betterbraces.com/ankle-braces
my choice aircast airsport: http://www.betterbraces.com/aircast-airsport-ankle-brace

Pros:
They will match up the price i you find their products cheaper
Very Durable
Warranty
Prevents from inner and outer sprains
Fits Wrestling shoes
Adjustable

Cons:
a bit bulky so if you have tiny footholds might affect you- Still way better then Sprained Ankle

Ouche thread. Ac shoulder joint almost healed from feb\14' then a chin stitchs at carolina failed barrel. This year is a wrap. Work out over winter and hope for good times next year.

I have a massive injury list from years of action sports. i think there are 2 ways to recover. 1 is to slowly work into it and get back to the level you were at. the other, and the one i usually favor is go throw as big as possible! get over the fear with one massive trick. but then again skis don't scare me the way they probably should.

the only thing that took me down from a sport was freestyle motocross. bailed from a trick threw the bike away and when i landed and my knees buckled. haven't jumped a dirtbike since. i much prefer landing in water vs laning on a dirt landing if something goes wrong.

What did you do about AC Joint. I have same issue.
Mine was like level 2, level 3 is screws and stuff. Doc told me ill have a lump there and no hard work outs for a year. I have to let scar tissue build up and muscles to build back around new location. First month was a bugger. Arm sling and zero lifting. Granted that was the exact time i was making my first plug for proto-types. I should have named my ski " seperated ac".
A one arm build at first. Definitely a long term heal. I rode a little this summer and considered it rehab. Pulling up a pole workes that out. This injury happened on the wrestling matt trying to help the high schoolers step up for districts.

can you explain the levels. mine is more arthritis I believe with some damage. Ortho gave option of just letting it go or I could do surgery to go in and clean up...........

Big k, seperation is different than a dislocation. Seperation in lamens terms to me level 1 minor level 2 serious level 3 surgery. If i broke it again it would immediately be level 3. Scar tissue(arthritis) is setting in there. Click and whatnot can be heard not as bad now. The future of mine will be a cortizone shot if and when it gets bad and ifvit gets real bad pain wise i would consider surgery to scrap it clean. That joint is a one year heal typically. I have a high pain tolerance so its gotta be real bad before i let a surgeon play with me. Id consider cortizone big k if doc says it might work. I started out with very light weighs to work back up. Oh ya there was pain but i didnt push too hard on the work outs. I mean like a 2lb wait and more reps then gradually move forward

Did one shot, but at the time I was thinking it was rotator cuff. Shot did not do much for the pain. few days maybe. Mine is just a dull ache. Limited range of motion. he said rehab would only be 4-6 weeks. So, sounds like it is more minor damage. I asked if I waited would it cause more damage and he said no. That was back in May. As soon as I knew it was not Rotator, the pain seemed to go away. But came back in august. I did Rehab last winter and did not get much out of it. Pain never went away.

When i get injured at work or on a am ski I just go back to riding an SJ for a few weeks.

Recently I got pretty badly cut on a Spark in the surf and I couldn't even ride the SJ for a while. That sucked.

What i was told" im it hurts when you go in this position, dont do that then" . Sometimes that's hard to accept or on occasion impossible. Surgeon is my last ditch effort. I do use chiropractic measures for my lower back
