Riding Stance

There was a pole taken years ago that determined just how few guys can actually do barrel rolls. I keep both feet nailed in the footholds so I don't come flying out when I do rolls and flips. Better riders than me do surf stance and can roll both directions. I never found it comfortable in surf stance. And when I'm at the gym doing 400lb squats and deadlifts, I don't stand surf stance either

Footholds are in the back. So if you want you feet held in, that's where you stick em. So jumping and what not they go there. For cruising around, going fast etc, surf stance in where its at. Easy peasy.

It’s simple. If you look at dudes and feel funny below the belt, you ride surf stance.
If you ooze testosterone and bench press 3 plates you go conga mode.
Infact “dumper jumper” position makes it easier to hold the weight of your massive balls so that’s a big deciding factor for most.
Simple as.

As to the thread hijack: While I was (trying) to ride, my wife and @wavewarrior took a vote on the beach last Sunday that I plug the gay spray on my mostly stock FX-1.
I am not gay, but I think its kinda cool.
What say you?

As to the topic: Yes, I have learned to prefer surf stance for turning.
And Dave told me to edge the ski and then pressure the rear foot to keep the aft edge anchored while building G's in higher speed turns.
I am working on it. (I don't know how to jump.)
But I definitely know from snow skiing: "Edge first, Pressure second."

P.S. I confess that I also use Klotz oil.

Bidet spray oughta stay

Keeps it fresh and clean

Conga style (dumper jumpers) need it

You also dont squat on a narrow plank of fiberglass floating on water either!

Feet in the footholds in the back gives you way more controll and leverage to get the boat to do what you want. I can reef the ass end of the ski around in mid air if I think I'm coming up short on a roll. Maybe surf stance is best for finess riders but I'm a gorilla thrasher and ride that style .

It depends what hull your on and flatwater, surf, boat chaser?

I chase boats and ride surf. So there’s only 1-2 times I’ll ever be in back footholds and that’s to flip/roll boat wake or tiny shore break surf. ( no I’m not afraid to hit sand bar )

97% of the time in surf stance for flipping bigger waves and optimal control of the ski and not bouncing around looking like a dork on a pogo stick.

Full on comp flatwater skis have no choice but both feet out back.
