Ive had a B pipe since 1995 and now my latest ski that had that pipe is sold and gone. Before the B pipe I had a Pro-tec 650 pipe for 4 years.
I just bought a type 4 for a killer price and I dont know jack about them, but I want to try one for awhile. I also have a new TNT water injection brain, but I have no solenoids yet, so at this point I think I will just run it with no water injection first, just so i can get out on the water. I know i need to get a coupler too,maybe 2 or 3..lol(from what i have read). Ive read about making sure there all lined up and shimmed well. i have searched here a lot, but still have questions.
The pipe i bought is in the pic below.

It would be much appreciated if some peeps with some experience could chime in!
Here are a few of the question i have:

:confused: Mine never came with any o-rings and I dont even know where they go. I assume its on that inner pipe where where the pipe meets the manifold?? is ther one or 2? Where can you buy these? MCmaster carr or? Also i read someone saying they dont used the o-rings and just silcone the hell out of it or something and it works great...lol I dunno


:shrug: What do you do to run one with a stock Yam 61x head? Mine came with a bracket that is supposed to be for a ADA head, but I want to try it on this stock head first. This ADA bracket is not even close to working with the OEM head.

:scratchchin: Does anyone have any water routing suggestions or any kind of tips or tricks like certain jetting sizes of certain water lines, etc.? Pm if you like.

Pm jetmaniac he may have some oring, just ordered a few

to run the pipeon a stock head you don't need that bracket at all, just bolt the dampener straight to the stock head. i have heard a girdled head is needed when running these pipes in the surf as they can crack a cylinder.

if you have your boat setup for dual cooling run 1 line to the manifold(to cool the engine) run the other line to the fitting at the beginning of the chamber(to cool pipe) then you can run all the lines off the head to pissers.
the straight fitting(barbed fitting) near the stinger goes to a pisser.

Hmm, I hope it is the Riva freeride pipe. I was just looking at DAGs pipe that he thought was a type 4 and BK told him it was a Freeride. They really look the same. What are the differences anyway? Ive looked at pipes for sale that people say are type 4 and I cant tell the difference by eye on pictures anyway.

Here is a pic of a type 4 that Blue(Jetmaniacs builder guy) had for sale and another pic of mine. I cant see any difference other than this one is silver and mine was originally that dark metallic blue color.
1st pic is Blues, second pic is mine, 3rd pic is DAG's that BK says is a freeride also.

Also thanks trojoro for the information, I really appreciate it. i cant wait to try this pipe out.

I'd be curious to know also. I bought mine being told it was a Type 4 but "lucked out" i guess that its a freeride pipe. I plan on comparing it to a PFP in the next couple months I'll post a ride report, but still working on getting the ski together.

I'm pretty sure the metallic blue pipes were from factory. and btw this pipe rips. just set mine up this weekend and i absolutely love the power increase over my old protect mach 1.

This chamber was built to RIVA's specs. Buddy has both. The type 4 is wider than the Freeride and longer out the back. Always had more trouble installing it than the Freeride version which was a tad narrower and shorter at the rear.
 
i wonder how these comapare to protec mack 1 with water adj screws, thats what i have and have always wanted to try one of these freeride pipes, do you guys run with or without water inj??

same here (hd silicone coupler) never ran the o'ring. never had a pipe issue. it's going on my fx with the x-scream 865ss next

There are 3 different chambers for the type 4 pipe. Factory pipe had the blue "limited" chamber and the black "high rev" chamber. Riva had the freeride chamber. The black high rev and freeride are very similar if not the same. As BK said they are narrower and shorter than the blue limited chamber.

Those are ALL Riva pipes. No type 4 pictured.

Ok, so for the record in your opinion, those pictured above are all the Riva Freeride model pipes?

The High Rev and the Freeride are different. RIVA use to sell the High Rev along with their Freeride version. "For Racing we have the 'High Rev' versions for your ported motors". (Something along those lines).

That only makes sense that they have to be different from a ltd. type pipe to a mod/higher rev race pipe with shorter tail cone etc...
For the hell of it Im gonna dig through my old mag collection(300+) that dates back to 1988. Ill look in the mid 90's for some Riva pipe ads and post up...

Dry pipes came out in 2000. I remember seeing one in May of 2000 that was a preproduction pipe. Raw and Rusted!!!!!!!! Guy had it in a square nose (Expert S.S. or Limited class), ski was fast and ugly!!!!!!!!!!
