painted the bottoms saturday evening... very happy with how they turned out. VERY smooth and orange peel is almost non-existent. getting better at gun setup with every job i do (i rarely paint, only a hobby). very little "air debris" that fell on it during the drying process. because this is the bottom, we'll run it as is. when i shoot the top side(s), i'll wet sand and polish out.

anyone that paints, knows painting in a down draft booth is the only way to go to avoid small particles in the air from falling on the paint, especially on black / darker color. unfortunately, i do not own or have access to one. i have a small paint booth in my basement i do everything in (with custom ventilation system of course so my house doesn't smell).

KDX on the left, DVX on the right. i'll be running orange graphics, Clouse is running green graphics. hoping to paint the top sides this coming saturday. will post pics.

Looks great. Your paint booth looks alot more legit than mine. What did you spray with and what paint?

thanks for the kind words!

shooting with a Sata Jet 3000, 60 gallon compressor, multiple filters, blah blah... the key (for me) on gun setup was running the fan pattern ALL the way open, fluid level ALL the way open and around 28 psi.

because we were not going to go with any pearl and just a simple high gloss black, i went with a one stage acrylic enamel. brand Shop Line (PPG's "budget" paint). i have used it before (paint on hull last year) in white and had great results. wetsands and polishes out to glass and easy to use and most importantly, VERY durable. i have also shot a base / clear / 2 stage using the Shop Line brand on my first Superfreak hull years ago and had great results.

1 gallon of black paint was $100ish. then i had to buy reducer, hardener, etc... i bought sealer for Clouse's ski as well since his is a virgin and has never had paint. overall a very affordable paint job.

finally finished the top sides on Sunday. between being sick and a tree falling on my house a couple weeks ago, it put me a bit behind schedule.

dvx on right, kdx on left.

couldn't be happier with how the paint turned out. smooth as glass (crinkles you see in the lower left corner of the last pic is paint on the painters tape). these pictures are BEFORE wet sanding and polishing. hoping to start wet sanding and polishing throughout the week.

Very nice. I use a devilbiss finishline and dupont rival (supposed to be successor to imron) it's a bit more expensive but is for commercial vehicles. The craftsmanship of the hull looks really good. In the interior, on the sides, what are those bulges? Did they use a foam core on some of the more abused areas?

Big progress yesterday! Paint is about 95% done. All that is left is to wet sand and polish the hoods. Roo is starting to become quite the painter....black looks awesome in the sunlight and the wet sanding/polishing really brought out that "mirror" finish.

While Roo was prepping/spraying the hoods, I began to begin the turf on the rails of the ski. This was my first time using molded diamond on the rails....definitely tougher to work with but love how you can heat it up and stretch it without worrying about it tearing...crazy durable.

Anyways...here are some pics

Got the majority of the turf done this past Saturday. All that is left to do is to finish the trays on both skis and the tops of the footholds on roo's kdx. I have never been the greatest at turf but i feel like im starting to get the hang of it and these turned out fairly decent. Still have to do some fine trimming on both as well as run a bead of silicone/rtv along the edges to help prevent peeling.

Roo's KDX - I cut some 26mm padding and laid it on edge to create some heel locks for his multiple backies

My DVX - Hoping to do a similar thing with the heel lock on roos but not as aggressive. I have a tendency to get caught in the holds with my ski wide open upside down haha (This pic was taken before i shaved the 26mm padding down in the rear to create a smooth transition, looks similar to roos now)
