I've been bust'n ass as much as possible. I'm right in the middle of buying a foreclosed duplex so that is sucking up a lot of time too.
Ski should move faster now that its warm out and I can work on more than one thing at a time.

If you need help with the buying process, give me a shout. I buy bank owned proerties for a living, rehab and resell, rehab and rent out.

Well have a bit of a marathon session in the garage tonight. It's 3:30 am right now. Got the whole top deck prepped for carbon & kevlar, a layer of kevlar and carbon down on the whole top deck, several layers around the hood lip area and a bunch on the pole bracket and nose. I get to sleep for a couple hours then back out to tend to it as it starts to tack up. An extra set of hands would have been helpful tonight but oh well, need to get chit done!

What's the proper way to prep this for paint on the outside. Specifically asking about where I laid carbon over the top what was already there. It's still rough and can feel the weave of the cloth. I need to place another order for materials and don't know what i should be using to prep for finishing. Can I just blend the layers by sanding, apply another coat of resin & re-sand? Excuse my ignorance :)

Update time.

I had to add some reinforcements to the pump tunnel. I was going to start running cooling lines and noticed it was real thin in a few areas.

Attempted to make some carbon tubes for exhaust. First tube I tried vacuum bagging and it ended up creasing the carbon. Looks ugly but is still strong as crap. I sanded the ends and wrapped another layer of material around, followed by peel-ply and then electrical tape. This worked out well and left a nice finish.

The second tube I laid up turn out better, but still not totally smooth on the outside. I used 2" PWC for a plug, waxed it with some mould release and found if I put it in the freezer after the resin had cured it slides right out. I will try to use this piece in place of the long rubber exhaust hose.

Got the through hull tube installed, pvc pipe for versiplug, and pvc for drive shaft. Also spent a fair amount of time fitting the top deck and mocking up some cut lines for the hood.

I would sand down the high spots of the weave .... don't get to aggressive . Use an epoxy fairing compound to feather your edges then when you paint use a high build surfacing primer . You won't get it all , but you can clean it up significantly . Trust me on the high build, it will save several hours of pin hole filling and give you a better finnish. It's hard to find qt sizes in high build . Look for some awlgrip high build and 545 (meritt boat supply ). 545 is a primer sealer . Block it Seal with 545 let it tack then shoot the high build (to what ever thickness you need ) block it down seal again with 545 block it for the top coat . You can use some cheaper stuff as well . Take a look at southern polyurathanes .com . These guys cater to the hot rod crowd / home builders so they don't mind answer questions. Either way you are going to be a sanding MOFO if you want it to look reasonable . I takes me about an hour to block a hull .

Dupont makes a primer in their marine line ( Merritt boat supply ) that is a sealer and high build all in one ....... but it's 250.00 bucks a gallon shipped.....

Happy sanding

Thanks for the tips man. I ordered some fairing compound with my last order. Also talked to one of the guys at express composites and he suggested I sand the weave as you stated, lay down a layer of resin, then place peel-ply over and brush over that as well. Then sand smooth. For paint I'm planning on doing a two down flat white and visual carbon (where it still looks ok). I know it won't be perfect, and I'm not going to spend hrs & hrs trying to make it a show hull.

I got all of the plumbing run, added intake & rideplate inserts, drain screws, and finished the exhaust & versiplug tubes. Everything is now sealed up with 5200 but not shown in the photos. First time I've used that stuff... and it's f'n nasty crap. I had one of the wing nuts I'm using on the inside of the hull for the drain bolts to thread into move on me and I had to reach under the exhaust tube to reposition it and my whole damn hand and half my forearm got covered in 5200. Only took about a week to get that off lol.

This project is now packed away in the corner with all of my composite materials. I just closed on my first house this week and that takes priority for the time being.

Nope. Haven't had a chance to touch it since I closed on my house.
First priority is to get my RN hull back together so I can ride, then I'll start on this hull again. I got friggin weddings and a bunch of other crap coming up too.

I had to borrow a ski for the Dells ride last weekend. It felt good to be back on the water

Anyone interested in buying this project?
I have spare carbon, kevlar, resin, BOB adjustable footholds, bagging materials, 5 gal or tooling resin, tooling gel coat and other misc to go with it.

Feel free to PM offers if intersted.

House needs a new furnace.... I have a Sportster that I picked up too that needs engine work that I may have sold to a co-worker. If that sells, I'll keep the hull
