Really? I posted them to our HOA facebook page last night and a bunch of people couldn't view them. I uploaded them to Vimeo and set them to be viewable by everyone and i'm still getting people who can't see them.

Must be not everyone has the right codec installed.

So, I am almost to the conclusion that a PC is just not up to the task of handling 8 HD cameras. I looked into buying the Reolink NVR for $250 and discovered that it requires I buy a HDD. While looking up appropriate drives, I stumbled upon Seagate Surveillance rated drives and realized that part of my problem might be that I am not using the right drive. Since I have to buy a drive anyways, I figured I may as well buy the drive and try it in my PC. The SV35 2TB was only $65 shipped.

Anyone have any experience with the Seagate SV35 2TB drives? They are supposed to be very fast and very smooth and quiet.

Edit: I ordered the 2TB SV35 drive and then found that the Reolink NVR does in fact come with a 2TB Surveillance drive already installed. Looks like my media server gets an upgrade from 500GB to 2TB. :)

This weekend, I'll connect a POE switch to it and see what happens when I connect a camera to that switch and that switch to the unit.

Hey Pete, I also have the Reolink complete system and want to hook up 2 cameras to a Poe switch and send them over wireless bridge(ubiquity makes awesome stuff! Nanostation m5) .Did you ever try that out?

I got the Reolink NVR all hooked up now and it picks up the cameras regardless of where they are on the network or how they are configured.

I have all but two of my cameras plugged directly into the NVR but all are available to the NVR and to any other device on the network as well as on the mobile device.

The documentation says it will only accept 8 cameras but it currently shows a 9th channel as available. I don't have another camera to connect but I would be curious if it adds another spare channel as soon as the last available is connected.

One is plugged into the 8 port switch out in the garage, the other is a wifi camera connected to my Cisco Router.
Before I switched the other 6 cameras over to the NVR, I had them plugged into my main 16 port switch and the NVR still connected to them and recorded from them.

As long as they are on the network, the NVR sees them.

I'm assuming you prefer the NVR?

Mine has been running flawlessly so far.

I'm only at 5 cameras at the moment, but I will be putting up number six this coming week. I still need to order a couple more. The PTZ doesn't even appear on Amazon any longer. I hope they bring it back; I want it for the backyard.

I'm torn at the moment. The NVR is dead simple to set up and configure, it keeps all that HD traffic off my home network, records at full resolution and never misses a thing. The one feature I am missing from iSpy is how easy it was to access and review the footage.

I was so burned out from all the time spent tweaking and reviewing the iSpy software that I swapped all the cameras over to the NVR, set it to record 24/7 and haven't touched it since. It's great that I now have 24/7 coverage but without the motion indication, there's tons more footage to review and no marker to highlight anything in particular. It's good in the sense that it doesn't take any of my time anymore but at the same time, I can't help but wonder what I may be missing by not constantly reviewing it.

I have a bunch of time off over Christmas so I will probably use that time to set up the motion detection on the perimeter cameras and just leave the one main camera to run 24/7.

The system will accept one more camera so I am thinking about replacing my highest camera with one of the big PTZ units. That would allow me to pan and zoom in on all kinds of things up and down my street. My old Sony Ipela would do all that but it never had the proper housing to put it outside.

Well, I installed the PTZ camera about a week ago, and I'm pretty happy so far.

The picture, control, night vision, etc. are all very good.

The one issue I've ran into is the "positioning". You are able to set specific "call" points where you might make one call point the outdoor kitchen, another the gate and another the dock. You can then add these call points as patrol locations and tell the camera to go from one call point to another and so forth. You can tell it how fast to go to each point and how long to stay at each point.

The problem comes into play if the camera head is ever physically moved. The camera head has essentially no resistance, you could easily move it with your hand. We had a really bad storm last Sunday morning with massive wind. It was enough to slight move the camera head. After that point, all of my call points were off. It was a very simple fix, I just went to each call point, adjusted the camera and then save that point. However, I can see me potentially having to do this 4 or 5 times a year when we have storms that bad.

Oh, the other thing is that when it goes from point to point in "Patrol", it only spins in one direction. When you use the pointers to move the camera, you can go any direction, but in patrol, it only goes right to left. So when I finish my last call point on the left, it has to spin past the wall to get to the first one on the right. I tell it to go at 3/4 speed to get there, so it only takes about 1.5 seconds, but I'd rather it go slowly to the right to that next point. Not a huge issue or anything, but it's something that may bug some people.

I'm sure I may find another issue or two over time, but they'll probably be very minor.

I think it was well worth the $250.
