pulling a skier seems crazy???

why? ive done it on a 440.

speed is right about a solid 40mph with a 701. they came with 650s.

-----------

an "accelerator pedal" wouldnt work due to the limited foot space in back of the console. putting on the side of the console is out of the question, as is glassing anything in the console area for a foot pedal. the thought did cross my mind when i was sitting there, but when youre sitting there, you see why it wouldnt work.

-------

i installed the engine today and fired it up with a temporary tank (a gas can with some fuel hose going into it).

fired right up on the first try and sounded just like a stock 62t raider engine with 180 compression should! :woot:

dont mean to deat this throttle topic to death but even attaching the finger throttle to the bottom of console would allow for foot operation. nice boat by the way

I have rigged a few boat throttles to accept pwc throttle cables on various jet boat projects, its usually a major PITA to make them operate correctly as well as finding the proper length cables and all the little fittings and such to make it all work.

it has a wr3 pump.... 144mm. the wear ring and stator are the same as an SJ.

i put the concord from my SJ in there cause i got me a hooker for the SJ.

it even has a protec intake grate.

I guess I just didn't realize how much power the 701 had......I mean that whaler is almost 3 times the weight of a superjet plus passengers.......

thats bad ass.....perfect fishing/cruising boat....I want one

how does the reverse work....is it a transmission or a rederect of the jet?

....i removed the cheezy fiberglass whaler waterbox from the bilge and installed a raider waterbox under the seat. woot!

i took it for a test ride yesterday and the thing boogies!

i think im over-propped with my concord 13/17 though. it worked great on my 300 lbs SJ, but i think its making the engine work too hard pushing 1/2 ton around.

i kept hearing what sounded like a four stroke pinging sound coming from the engine between 1/4 throttle and 1/2 throttle. could this be caused by too much load on the engine through the impeller?

does yours or steve's porpoise at high speeds when there's no weight on the bow?

we almost bought one of these this weekend for messing around on the flats and for snook/tarpon inshore/canal/icw stuff.. we just really didnt like the way it rode and it was REALLY loud (had a 760 in it with the waterbox deleted).

They are pretty loud, even with the waterbox in it, and without trim tabs they do porpoise a bit with all the weight in the back.

Charlies boat has trim tabs, and he does not have porpoising problems, and a set of smart tabs would work great at a fraction of the cost of controlled trim tabs.

I have smart tabs on my 20' Walk Around and they are worth every penny of the $150 they cost.

thanks for the info rick.

a 20' walkaround is what i have too. those smart tabs sound interesting.

in stock form, they ride like ass. even steves rides like ass because his tabs fixed-but-adjustable-with-a-10mm-wrench tabs just arent big enough, unless your passenger sits up front.

1 occupamt = seat
2 occupants = seat + bow
3 occupants = seat + seat + bow
4 occupants = seat + seat + bow + bow
5 occupants = seat + seat + seat +bow + bow

bow wow.

however, ive never planed off with 5 adults with the 701 and who knows how many gallons of water.... i dont think steve has either.

it will definitely be loud with no waterbox. the stock waterbox is an inline fiberglass POS. i put a raider box on mine which is much quieter, but im quieting it down some more with it being split in half and all....
