Super Jet SN or RN?

im fairly new to the ski world (this is my first season riding). i was wondering what the differance is between a RN superjet and a SN superjet. obviously i know they have a differnt style nose on them but were they made for people to choose what style they want or do they have a performance advantage over each other?

The SN stopped being made in '95. The RN took over from there. It's not as if they were both offered at the same time for you to take your pick in styling...the RN is the updated design.

As already said, all of the parts / mods available for the RN make it the best choice.

I rock a SN and am happy
RN is:
newer
more expensive
same bottom hull
came with a different engine
lighter top deck
different hood
different handlepole

A SN can be made just as capable as a RN with an aftermarket pole and some fiberglass work on the hood. upgrade the engine too if it isn't already a 701.

!. i like the picture, did you take that while driving?
2. how hard is it to find parts for a superjet, like electrical stuff and steeering cause im probably gonna just buy a cheap hull from a guy on ebay who lives closeby and do everything from scratch.

It will be a lot more expensive to build a ski from scratch. It'd be cheaper to buy a complete ski and get it shipped. Parts for SJ's are readily available from just about everywhere since they are the most popular. I knew the SN had a top deck made from Metton and the RN was made from SMC. Neither are great materials but they both hold up. This is the first I've heard of the RN being lighter than the SN. They're both listed from the manufacturer as being the same weight. The RN hulls have more options for pole brackets, poles, and hoods. However, you can put a RN pole on a SN hull with something called a hazard bracket...and why anyone would want to spend $1000 on a lightweight hood for a stock hull is beyond me. The midshafts from 90-93 are different from 94+. The SN waterbox has smaller inlets and outlets.

IMO, buy the SN and save a couple grand. Then use that extra money for mods and improvements until you decide you want to get an aftermarket hull. $3000 will buy you a really nice heavily modified SN that will spank a virtually stock $3000 RN everyday of the week.

oh i would to love to drop 3000 on a good SN but im 17 lol money is hard to come by since i can only make a ton of money in the summer. i mean i money chase as it is and only make like 350-450 a week as a laborer for a mason. i just thought building a ski would be esier for me since i could do it over the winter and spread out the cost of the project as i make it.

Don't build one from scratch. It will end up costing you a lot more. You can probably find a cheap SN with a 650 for under $1k. Some of the best riding Superjets I have been on have been SN. It sounds like with your age and budget a cheap SN is the best option. You can always build it from there. If you can afford one with a 701, I would spend a little more and do it.

ohh i see and the pic is sick dude. if anyone sees a cheap (under a 1000) SN anywhere could you post a link of it. i dont care about the paint condition of the hull as long as it is sturdy with no holes and i dont care if it is a 650 or 701 but preferably a 701 and mostly stock. i will mod myself.

you can do a 650 motor swap into a 550? My conversion ski ran 42 mph with 180psi stock everything else and a 17* prop. While my friends rebuilt stock 650 sn ran 38 mph.
