Surfriding So this is why my Rickter seemed a bit sluggish...

Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. 865, xs box, msd. Only seems to backfire in the water. Had a recent needle and seat issue where fuel was dumping into mag side carb. Scotty could be onto something with tank vent. I think its fuel related personally. Xs takes the filters out of the fuel pumps not that it matters but debris could be an issue...Good luck and thanks for posting.

Matt great comment. Still laughing. Seriously. One thing everyone is missing is the fact that the guts all inside the timing cover were from an msd. No mine is backfiring although smaller with msd and new battery. If i felt like going through all the cash and parts id install the bad battery and show everyone. Lol.

Back on topic though. The water box split has nothing to do with the weld and it is definitely going to happen again if the issue isnt fixed

Glad they are taking care of it for you. Do you consider it to be a product defect?

They were very interested in looking at the failed box. I should note that I bought the motor from them, they jetted my carbs, setup the headpipe, and I bought the EPIC from them.... and they programmed it, and every electrical componant on my boat was brand spanking new. All of which might have helped my case? I dunno. They did recommened I buy a NEW good quality battery (and keep it topped off) to help prevent any backfires while starting. Being that they are replacing this one for me, I am going to buy an extra waterbox and MSD enhancer to bring to Daytona just incase.

Regardless kudos for XS, they have always taken care of me.

Please keep us posted on this dilema as you learn more. I have been having multiple battery issues this year, I just bought a 3rd charger to diagnose my first two, and it is very different. I actually have a call into the manufacturer about it. The whole AGM, wet cell thing is somewhat different also. I just purchased a load tester for small batteries last night and will hopefully know more about this battery issues, backfire symptom soon.
