solas 14.7-18.5 is this too tall for a stock 92 snsj

Its probably too tall for any kind of low speed response and acceleration. Lower the leading edge a little and raise the trailing edge. Get the distance from the trailing edge to the blade above under 1.5" My hardest pulling props are 1.3". They seem to work with any 701-760 cylinder with old wet pipes. More power than that needs steeper pitch. Get a tach and start bending until it spools up quickly and peak rpm gains stop rising.

Looks like you have a Solas "J" prop. I started out with one on a stock engine. Sent it off to get checked and repitched and it was more like 19 degee on 1 or 2 blades and 20 on the other. After repitching to 14.5/18 (Same specs as the "I" prop it worked well.

I tried the 14-17 "S" prop. It was still a bit much but required little bending to find max thrust. Most Solas impellers run from too steep to way too steep for stock cylinders ported or not. The only ones that I found useable out of the box were the 9-15, 11-16, 12-18 Kawasaki Concords. For Superjets, the big hub YQ 9-15 is a great place to start. Bore the nozzle and it will be good for 61x or low port cylinders. Raise the trailing edge a little for 62T cylinders.

Solas “I” cut back and repitched by Art at Jetworks was the setup we ran on the pre 08’ bpipe limiteds. It ripped, but these limiteds had high compression ton of pipe work and custom water injection. I could see an “I” working on a mild SS SN. I think would try that before I reach for the “J”. Man I miss the real limited class, before they ruined it and allowed carbon hoods and skat pumps.

I agree. Hell, I started racing stock class in 2004 on SXR (shocking right). Even that class got out of hand.

Excuse the thread drift. They should have kept a stand alone X2 class, it was the most accessible for beginners and at the same time, very popular with older guys. The racing organization sold out a lot of participants and ultimately destroyed the whole class.
