So I just got this email from Personal Watercraft Illustrated trying to sell me a subscription to there stupid mag. Well, I can see from there Couch filled advertisements that they still just don’t get it. Haven’t they figured it out yet that Stand up watercraft and Couch’s just don’t mix? Who would buy a Dirt Bike Mag that is more full of Quads and Rhinos than Dirt Bikes???? That’s like sending a dude a subscription to “Play Girl” Mag! Hey its got nudity right? How F#@$%#ing stupid are these Bozos? Why don’t they make us separate Mags??? That way couchers can read about Couch’s and Stand-upers can read about Stand ups!! DUH!

Yeah its baffling to me! All the other sports mags seem to have figured it out. Does Surfer mag fill there pages full of spongers? Does Trans World Snowboarding feature any skiers in there? Ever seen a 4x4 Quad review in Dirt Bike Magazine? When will the watercraft world figure it out?

I always walk into a place like barnes and noble and hope to see a guy doing a back flip on a stand up or something. But nope, the closest I found was a sport boat / very little sit down PWC mag's in all the places I have looked.

Maybe, 227 that would be a good thing for you to start up!
Name the mag FreeRide, and just have write up's and what ever. Best ski of the month. Im sure quite a few guys from the x would join!

With the pound to dolla conversion a year subscription runs about $85 US

They need more subscribers!
Really is an awsome mag. Mostly stand ups and geared toward freeride. High quality paper and all in color!! I know that sounds trivial, but it really is a quality mag.

They have trouble filling up with both Standups and Runabouts, hell, they even throw in wake boarding to try and get filler. Also, they are half the size of what SPLASH use to be, let alone the size they themselves use to print.

Not enough info out there, not enough advertising dollars.

I used to get SPLASH Magazine. It was pretty good with the ratio of Standups to couches. I haven't seen it in over 8 yrs now.

Not having publicity is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. I love that we do something that the masses haven't infiltrated and diluted. As far as finding new products and tech info, I find the "X" to be way more entertaining, relevent, usefull and informative than any magazine out there.

Every pic is a "readers ride", we still get to see lots of girlie pics. :woot:, and I don't have to worry about leaving my copy behind anywhere.

SPLASH was bought out by Watercraft World, a 12 month issue vs the 8 month of WW, it just went away, they paid them to basically just die.

I used to have a subscription to PWI, until they had an article in there about where the mirrors were, what a tow hook was for... It was supposed to be an into to your PWC for new buyers, I couldn't see myself spending another $80 to renew the subscription.

john..we should be happy with the little exposure we get..there is no way there is enough people to buy a standup only mag and make it profitable, couchers (who actually buy the mag) dont want to read about standups anymore than you want to read about the latest in aqua socks or wax for your honda..i think PWI is doing a good job..there will be a full article on taylor's tahiti story in the next issue with him charging xl chopes, which dosnt really get any better than that....if you guys want to see more standup coverage, throw down some insane stuff and get some killer shots..they will run it :veryhappy:

i agree a magazine just about standups would be about 12 pages long and have a bunch of backflips and barrel rolls in it. maybe a nose stab or some guy turning on a wave here and there? it gets repetitive quick i would think.

Very true just like watching a freeride CD......... o there is another back flip O there is another barrel roll O there is another re entry......... and over and over again

PWI didn't send me two issues when I first started getting their magazine years back. It was two issues in the middle of my subscription. I didn't move, change my address, nothing. So I called them and they said they would send me those two issues or extend my subscription by two issues. I said no I want the two I missed. (I hate to admit it but the Sea Doo 3D just came out and I was curious about it). I never got those two issues!

So just this past year I was liek you know what I am going to renew my subscription to PWI. I also got a subscription to WW while I was at it. I must say I am not pleased and will just save my money from now on! They both just do not have the content I am looking for.

I have subscriptions to Watercraft World, Personal Watercraft Illustrated, and Ride Mag (with my AWA Membership) I have to say as a recent coucher convert they all do a pretty good job covering Personal Watercraft as a whole. But they do skimp on Standup Tech articles but the last two issues of PWI have had two huge articles as as well as several photo shots of featuring Ross C and Pierre. They had huge photo filled articles even if one of them featured Ross C riding couches!
