Other Southern California Ski Freindly Lakes

Okay, so I have been going to lakes and rivers all my life .. But recently well with the crap economy, I've been looking for more local trips to take the skis on .. Plus then I would be able to go out more often, as it sits now I maybe take them out like 2-3 times over the summer .... So I'm relatively new to stand ups but ever since that first ride, I'm in love .... So I have been doing some research and come up with a pretty good sized list of places, but am having trouble finding some information about the lakes .. So if anyone knows are goes to any of these places, please comment with some information .. (ramp, local camping, clean, noise ordinance, etc.)

Casitas is a no touch lake and Piru doesn't allow PWC's unless they are over a certain length (as far as I can remember about the only PWC's you can ride on Piru are SUV's and that long ass Sea Doo one).

lake cachuma is the same...they allow boats but u cant go in the water cause its our drinking water supply...not sure i understand how people are dirtier than an old 2smoke on a fishing boat..

humans cannot touch the water... so basically you can only fish in the lake... If I'm not mistaken I think Lake Casitas is where the treated water is dumped...

Lake Elsinor, El Capitan and Nacimiento are all ok for jet ski's, I have ridden them all however last season and this season I will only ride ocean as the lakes are patrolled too much.. Nacamiento by far is the nicest of the three hands down!

Elsinor is dirty brown water- very hot in the summer and patrolled heavily, El Capitan is a small resevoir with $25 per boat/car fees and only a smalll riding area at the damn end and it gets packed in the summer, got there before 8:00am or youll be sorry.

Mission Bay (Fiesta Island): free camping, free launchining, no daily permits and no daily fees! free seaworld fireworks nightly. this is dry camping however they have portapoties all over the Island and on weekends its full of stand up riders.

We ride come join at any time

Lake Lahontan
Lake Pyramid ( not my favorite )

castaic is no good there is a small jetski area where you have to ride in a circle. i always liked pyramid it's patrolled by sheriff's but they were really laid back. everyone has to have a boat or ski though no common beach area to get to without one.

Webb is shallow, muddy, and warm. Crowded at peak times, $6 per ski + $7 per car. Patrol is moderate, no grief for freestyling if you follow the other rules.

Isabella is big, deep, very windy in the afternoon. No fees, light patrol.

Most of the reservoir lakes in socal they separate the boats from the jet skis.... and you have to go in a circle that is roped off. And on some there is speed restrictions. I am soooo glad I live in AZ now.

California is so odd to me . Sadly this slow progression of GOVERNMENT over regulation is now expected and amazingly tolerated by the we the people. Of course this is just one tiny example. I get a little worked up on these things because I know all the crazy wack job idea west eventually makes its way east.

Jennings is ok dealing with the rednecks in lakeside. Lake morena has been dry for over 10 years. El cap and San vincente are not too bad. Pyramid is at the top of the grapevine and I dont know if you can ride there or not.

EVERY lake in So CAL sucks. The few that you can ride on are dirty, heavily patrolled and have major riding restrictions (ride in a circle only). Since you live in OC why don't you head down to Oceanside and ride some surf with us? You're closer to Oceanside than any of those lakes, and once you ride the surf, EVERYTHING else is boring!

John is right... Oceanside is closer than any lake... and 100x more fun!!! Everyone that rides there is super nice and very supportive!! I live in HB, so the closest rideable lake would be Smell-some-more (elsinore) which is a longer drive than Oceanside.

The Good Old Days
Sounds depressing.

Is there anything out in California that isn't heavily regulated ?

I remember the images I had in my head growing up behind the Iron Curtain. Boy, was I wrong.

Yeah, thats pretty much what I've been finding out .. I was stocked fur like an hour earlier because I found Puddingstone Lake which is 20 mins from my house, but they have odd-even days .. PWC's are allowed on the lake even days and boats on odd days .. Ad they have all these crazy nose violation and speed limits, and the whole circle thing is really annoying ....

Yeah, I've thought about surf .. But I'm really not that skilled, I'd like to ride more often .. But I think I need to get down the flat water stuff first .. Plus, salt and the stories I heard about guys always breaking there skis kind of worries me ....
