I was thinking that we could have two catagories: Professional and Amateurs. The professionals would include bussiness that do this for a living like myself, Lehr performance, CG , Waterdawgs, wammer etc... Amateur would include everybody else . I think this would make it more fair for the average builder . Of course, we will still have the other awards : best turf, best paint etc...

What do you guys think?? we need to start an official thread with entries and a determined set of rules and guidelines.

I want to know what constitutes a "build" I have been doing a little of this and some of that to my ski over the past 2 seasons and now I am giving it a little new love. My ski wasn't necessarily built for the build off but it is a pretty nice ski IMO and i wonder how it holds up to other peoples skis. SO is this more like a car show and you are judged on the total package or like a build of where it has to be built specifically for the event?

that wouldnt be bad idea, but you still gotta remember there is a big budget spread in the amateur ranks, from someone like me (a college student, who saves every penny for thing) and say some one who is like an engineer or soething pulling in the big bucks..

No offense but if you can't pay don't play that simple. You don't have to spend big money to build a nice ski either. When i was 18 i built a 440 that to this day people still comment on how nice it is. I didn't have more then $800 into it. I made parts and took my time etc. to make it look nice and run great. The intent of these build offs it to challenge people to come up with new things, show off what they have done, or try new idea that may or may not work. Look at the SJ with a Polaris motor last year, IMO the most overlooked accomplishment there. There was insane time and innovation in that ski and i think most people didn't even realize what they were looking at. Where else have you seen a ski like that..I never have and probably wouldn't have if not for the build off.

I vote it is like Steve said
Pro -people who own or work in the PWC industry.
Amateurs - people who make a living doing anything else be it a teacher (DJKorn did last year) Engineer, plumber, college student, whatever.

That's not too bad, but I think I still like Nick's plan of limited and unlimited. That will better allow the participants to maximize their build towards the class they're competing in. I personally can't afford a carbon hull with a 10mm lamey. I'm trying to put a ton of innovative and fairly affordable mods into my build. Heck, I don't even have an aftermarket hood.

I'm not sure I know exactly how things should work out. Maybe a board of advisors should be assembled to create two proposals that get voted on by the people. That seems fair right?

I wouldn't enter into this event lightly. If you think you have a pretty cool ski, but there are cooler skis out there... this isn't the event for you.

If you think you can build THE baddest ass, most innovative, cleanest, or most unique ski on the planet, this is the event for you. This isn't a competition for everybody.

If all the businesses get involved I that would be great!!! I agree, lets see who all enters then taylor the rules accordingly.

I hope that wasn't directed at me. Mine will hang with the best of them. Just because my chit isn't carbon fiber aftermarket doesn't mean that it isn't badass. The only two things I won't have going for me is lightweight and mega stroker horsepower. I'm by no means scared of the competition, I just want to see it all laid out fairly ahead of time.

It does not have to be over the top. Everyone has different styles and preferences. Some like hot multi-coat paint jobs, some like flat black like freestylegeek's build. The more variety the better.

I personally am looking forwad to going up against pro builders. I am confident that when I finish this build it could easliy hang with any pro built boat out there. Either way I am not sweating it. I just want to get mine done so I can ride and beat the piss out of it

umm i can pay man, it just sucks up every cent i own, i would love to see you build an sxr with 800 bucks, good luck. i have way way way way more into than that and i am taking my time and building everything i can and doing my own work wherever it is needed. (set back motor, modded stock hood, porting, mill head, and some more secrets that i am not saying until people notice them). i know about innovation, but when your wallets fat things come alot easier because you have the funds to make things happen. but whatever the classes are i will enter mine just for fun, i mean what have i got to lose.

the winner of the amateur build moves up and competes against the pros!!!

no need to waste peoples time with crap though. i mean...come on...a "milled head" might cost you a weeks worth of work, but your milled, stock-headed sxr w/porting isnt going to win any awards.....unless you got a trick blingin' bilge switch!

now go chase some stop signs!

:haha:

so now you need to go around and try to start stuff in other threads?? i still feel no need to start anything wit you because your a bunch of words over the internet, but honestly why would you insult a kid who is trying to get into the sport by doing my own work and learning how to work on these things?? someone else has got to see what i am saying here, i mean honeslty what did i ever do to this guy?? i am sorry i just wont go spend the 80 bucks or whatever to mill my head, or go spend 300 for aftermarket one, or spend another 300 on porting, why not try it myself and see what i can learn?? grow up man.. ohh and by the way my milled head took me all of an hour and a half... how many sxrs you know with a set back motor??? and by the way i got alot more than a milled head and porting. i cant wait to acutally meet you at lanier.. see if your attitude is the same in real life, see if you can be a big man and say things to people in person..

woah, you got a point.

...but if you wear a hat, nobody will notice.

along with pointing out what a dork i think you are, im also pointing out that just any ski with a few mods doesnt qualify as a buildoff ski. its like..... you wouldnt have a retard on jeopardy. see? not saying that youre retarded.... or that this is jeopardy.... but its a buildoff. a buildoff of custom skis. a hydroturf sticker and milled head is not a custom ski.

although, a stop sign post for a handlepole might win you some points with this voter!
