Lemme see if i can break this down for ya.

First, I understand your young and building your ski with what you got. I did the same thing too. I got a job and worked and dumped all my pennies into it. Thats cool, and im happy for ya.

I'm not trying to insult your ski at all, neither is SFL actually. We're just trying to get across to you that a build off boat is a ski that is of high class and built for this reason.
Entering a boat with stock paint is just out of the question. It would make you look moronic. It's just a kawi with some simple mods. Thats cool, so is my SJ. I understand it has more then DJs....but DJ has alot more CUSTOM work done.

I personally thought that SFLs, Party Boys, or Jen's ski didnt belong in the build off last year. SFL and PBs were regular SJs with the usual stuff, and Jen's was bought as it(well the motor was pretty cool).

Point being....dont enter a 99% stock boat with little to no custom to it. It's like buying a Honda Gold Wing, putting some flashing LEDs and a pipe on it and sticking it in the Biker Build off where people have slaved and built things from sratch or whatever.

Good points there...........I guess the organizers of the event will be the ones to set the ground rules for who can enter. There needs to be an offical thread started that lays out those guidelines and startes taking names of participants.

PS. SFL, is nothing like he is online. He's a pretty cool guy that .....the majority likes. The more you try to mess with him online and act like a hardass with "lets see you do it in person" comments. The more he'll ******** with ya:haha:

good points, i see what your saying...to a certain extent. my ski is alittle more than "a kawi with some simple mods" (setting the motor back hasnt been as simple as planned haha) sure i have alot of bolt on mods, but who doesnt?? i mean i cant widdle out my set of 46 mikunis. but i definetly see where your coming from..

i would love some custom paint, thats in the budget for next year...if all goes to plan. or if someone on here has a gun and wants to throw some paint on my ski cheap??? haha

and i wasnt trying to be a hardass at all, i am not like that in anyway..but you know as well as i do that its easy to run your mouth over the net. i would actually like to meet alot of people on here, i was in daytona but i had no idea what anyone looked like.

An official announcement will be made in the next few days. I wanted to see if my idea of having Professionals and amateur classes would make for a more even playing field. Let's hope that paul can secure the location soon!:sneaky:

Not geared towards you at all, GDFL. My post just happened to be after yours... I have no idea what your building! Go for it!

Here is what I know about last years rules.

1. The ski had to be build basically from scratch "just for the buildoff".
2. There was only one class.
3. There were other 'small' awards given (turf, paint, ski on a budget)
4. Everyone who attended the Ride was a judge and got to vote.
(I think it should be the same this year. IMHO). KEEP IT SIMPLE!!! KEEP THE FREERIDE MENTALITY!!

I think all of them were built stricktly for the build-off except for SFL. He has a badass ski, though, and I think he was talked into entering because at first it seemed like Steve and I were the only ones who showed up. (Correct me if I am wrong).

I hope that wasn't directed at me. Mine will hang with the best of them. Just because my chit isn't carbon fiber aftermarket doesn't mean that it isn't badass. The only two things I won't have going for me is lightweight and mega stroker horsepower. I'm by no means scared of the competition, I just want to see it all laid out fairly ahead of time.

I'll re-post em'.... pro and am doesn't cover the whole scope of things like limited and unlimited wording does... That way it doesn't matter if you are pro or am, just how deep you want to go into the project.... It makes more sense to me.

Classes

best overall limited build - all OEM standup hulls, including 24/7 conversions, aftermarket hoods, poles ect.... motor must be OEM platform including cyls.

best overall unlimited build - all aftermarket top decks and bottom decks, including 24/7 conversions if they are mated to an aftermarket hull, full on motor conversions/ swaps are welcome

best overall sport unlimited build - Blaster/x2 any mods... anything

Awards

Best overall limited build

best overall unlimited build

best overall sport unlimited build

best overall turf

best overall paint/graphics

best overall engine compartment layout

most innovative new design (new part, method, or OEM fix)

no need for correcting. thats what happened. my boat still has the factory gelcoat from '96! its not really buildoff material..... unless the only other competition was kawis and squares.:sneaky:

I really hope everyone can keep the spirit of the buildoff in mind. Build something for the event, and show it off. Don't get all hung on rules and whatnot, we're just doing it to have fun and let people show off their ski.

I think classes add too much crap. I believe it should be free for all with various awards. Thats IMO though

x2

People always complain about the 200 or so classes in racing, and here we go trying to put more classes than skis into this buildoff.

Keep it simple....Amateur and Pro, if you have to.

its like..... you wouldnt have a retard on jeopardy. see? +

although, a stop sign post for a handlepole might win you some points with this voter!

:haha:

What's with this setback motor?
This sounds like another potentially useless mod I can do cheaply at home! Let's hear it!

SXR's tend to be nose heavy (making them great race boats) By setting back the motor, cutting off the rideplate and putting in a much lighter waterbox, it lightens the nose up making it easier to roll and flip. I am going to try KX454's and if it works good, I'll do it too.

I allready cut a big D in my rideplate and the nose came up a little, but not enough. Next, I am putting in a much lighter waterbox (The SXR one is huge and heavy).

If I am still not happy, I will try KX's motor mod. I may be doing his hood mods too. Depending on how much weight he got out of that sucker.
