Spark opinions

here is my .02, I own a b1 modded and my buddy, the guy I ride with ALL the time has a spark I believe 2015 2up 90hp

(snip)

This is why I wish Yamaha would make something to compete with the Spark. I know that's why they made the EX, but it's hardly in the same class in terms of size/weight.

I'd be first in line for something with the size of a Spark but the reliability of a Yamaha 4-stroke...

If Kawi can put a 1500 in an oversized SXR, Yamaha should be able to put something similar in the B3. Bunch of slackers.

One of our WaveJunkies has a Spark and rides surf with us. 2 maybe 3 years. From what I recall he never broke any panels and the only issue was a steering one which I do not remember the details but it was not down for long and a pump shoe or housing in the last month. He is up and running as he was with us at Kerr Dam last weekend. :) He likes it enough he is considering a new one. I rode his at the Carolina freeride after a computer mod he made or bought and it was very nimble for what felt to me like a huge boat. I had fun with it for a few minutes but no surf where we were.

I'm no fan of the big couches. That being said I think they have a real place in our community as an entry point or possibly a post standup. I hear that quit before you sit ... But I call bullpoop on it. Sit before you quit.

Literally 3/4 of the responses to the op's question are zero help. The guy is just looking for some advice! They take a beating, i rode mine super hard in surf for over 80 hours, most of that in a midwest winter. It never missed a beat. Just broke easily replaceable parts.IMG_20170520_215549_456.jpg

Sounds like we've been successful getting away from the spark. He looked at them in the show room and is concerned about the build. The bigger issues is that they said out the door is over $7000 on a plastic hull.

We did go look at a b2 and thought that we could be excited about, but wasnt as minty as the pictures, would need a few hundred to get where we wanted it (shotty fuel routing, a home made intake grate which was just flat milled 1/4" aluminum cavitation fest), crack 8" long all the way through the hood, no where to water test and the deql breaker of 120/140 compression.

Ill keep looking.

He did ask me how the ultra 150 compared to the b2 and its one of the fww ive never ridden.

I've sold about 60 sparks in the last 2 years.. Rode them all. I ride stand-up fixed steer ski.... The spark is great for what it is.. The plastic hull will break if you hit it extremely hard but so would a glass ski and the cost to repair would be about the same. They are extremely nimble but more stable than the 96xp was. Very water tight when flipped over! and the motor can be tuned to 110 pretty easily... Parts to replace broken ones are cheap, and it's easy to work on. Now a days our cars are plastic... and that doesn't seem to bother anyone... If I had to go back to a sit down for some reason, I'd have a spark myself, I don't care for the b1 or 1 when you get dumped in the surf and try to get going again it sucks... the spark has a lower center of gravity so it's easier to remount. Base model used sparks can be had reasonable and you can take a 60hp to a 90 cheap, or even a 110... Best of all it's push-button and go....

I rode one recently for the first time and it was sweet. I'm not much of a sit down guy but I had a blast on it. Fun to throw chicks off of :)

I also saw birdman who had his in the surf at Grayland and Surfslam and it looked hella fun out there too. As long as you flush it and take care of it like anything else it should be good to go. Get the trixx model though, they are a little hotter than the base model from what I understand

This won't matter to your buddy, but it might peeve you a little lol...but the guy in our group with one is called The Destroyer for one reason and one reason only....when he cuts across our wave line he totally destroys the wave for us lol. He gets to have a little bit of air, but when he goes sailing past our lines the waves go totally flat lol. Dave the Destroyer we call him...thanks Dave, thanks lol.

i have two b1s one stock one rear rockers with trim and two sparkbtrix one of my sparks i have i put chip intake exhaust robin delete solas 12van pump and impeller and its awesome it comes out of the water (jumping) better then a stock hull b1 i can flat water 180 off my own set up wake on the spark, the with the sponsors lower 1/4-1/2 in it corners as good as the b1 overall the spark needs about 3000.00 in after market parts but is a great machine

There's no chip. There's a tune to your ecm. I can do 60-90-110 tunes.

You're in Texas. We're in Florida. There's a place just across the bridge called PWCmuscle he spoke with on the phone. I will keep you in mind however if he decides to go the mail order route in the programming.

I think right now the debate will be on 90 vs 110 and if the "brand" of the tune makes a difference.
