sponsorship for Gil=products I already use at good discounts. They are not paying me by any means, just hookin a brother up w/GREAT prices. I've done the sponsorhouse.com thing in mx for years and it was basicly the same type deal, only this time, I am my own sponsor house. Planning on running AM Freestyle on the SJ and AM limited ski on the SXR for this year and see how it goes. I really wanna qaulify for Nashville this year.

Why rain on Gils parade, he is happy about his sponsors and is taking the first good step and trying to promote their product? True it is not a full sponsorship, I started with 25% discounts but now get free stuff. Everyone has to start somewhere. Also take a look at what sport we are in, this isn't motocross or Nascar we have to nearly pull teath to get on national TV. Congrats on the sponsorship Gil.

What are you guys talking about...it is a sponsorship, but not a full sponsorship. Whydo you have to go around crushing peoples dreams, you have to start somewhere!!!!

thanks bro, I've been from bottom to top a couple of times in mx, ya gotta start somewhere! The point of all this is, I have committed myself now. Who knows, maybe this year I can pull a miracle out of the bag and get Paul to hook me up w/some SERIOUS brap next year. You never know until you try!!!

last time I checked, my contract from Hydroturf says "Sponsorship", not "Discountship"... When you are sponsored (regardless of what level of support you have) you are required to run their products, promote their products.........

It is sponsorship........

Now Gil, I am calling you out. You had better compete.

so if i sold you a copy of the addiction for $18.00 instead of $20.00 you would say i was one of your sponsors...

BK, you are a smart man, i know you know the difference between what a piece of paper says and what it means...

gil, please do not misunderstand, i am glad you are getting recognition...i am glad when anyone does...and yeah, if it means you are gonna compete this year..awesome...we need more people competing and involved on that level...

my personal belief is that alot of "sponsorships" out there are not all that great for the rider...and im not saying hydroturf is a bad company or any such nonsense like that, hydroturf does a ton for the sport!

its like this...

say you get a "sponsorship"...you get a 15% percent discount from company x for their little widget that makes your ski super duper fast...awesome...you run company x's stickers on your boat, you wear their clothes, you promote them...for a 15% dicount...so company x still makes a profit off of any products they sell to you but then they also get the added marketing benefit as well...

when you stop and look at all of the intangibles involved you are actually paying company x for them to "sponsor" you...

i know i hold the minority opinion on this issue, thats fine...i don't want to make it any worse than i already have...

Gil...once again, congratulations...hope to see you out there this year placing higher than BK at every event:biggrin:...

i just think it should be different...

it could be different...

looks like u were listening when we spoke about this years ago.

gil first things first.............congrats....... your amped because a company has shown support and belief in your abilities and thats cool as ******....... and ill preface anything i say with the statement that I am definatly happy for you that your getting noticed........ but and you knew there was gonna be a but........ watch what you refer to as sponsorship.

sponsorship is nothing more than u selling yourself as advertising....... make sure your charging an appropriate price and assigning an appropriate dollar amount to the non monetary compensation you receive. A billboard for disney world on I-95 south at the georgia florida border costs alot more money than the same advertising on the same size billboard on some backroad in deltona florida......... and i can damn near guarantee you that in either location the owners of said billboard wouldnt take discount epcot center tickets in lieu of monthly rental fees......... sure a discount on an entrance to epcot is nice the 3 times in the billboard owners life that he actually goes to epcot............. but it surely doesnt pay the taxes and upkeep on the billboard and the land on which it sits........... plus why would the billboard owner wanna spend his hard earned cash at disney world so he could get a discount that he is supposed to realize is a payment for disney advertising on the billboard......... hes basically buying the advertising for disney......... get it? then what happens when universal studios comes along and wants the same saize billboard right next to disney......... how do u convince them that they are gtting a good deal by giving u anything more than the "disney discount" for a comparable billboard......... just think long and hard and make sure your being fair to everyone involved especially yourself and the others in the "sport"

A billboard probobally gets more views a day than there is jetskis in the US. Thats the difference, our sport is small and not mainstream.

no only that, There is a difference between amature and professional. the billboard CORPORATION is selling advertising space as a means of living. If it was just for fun and they were going to be putting up billboards anyways, then they WOULD accept products at a discount since the billborad was a sunk cost in the begining.

PRO status should only accept sponsors that pay them or give them tons of free stuff......

ENOUGH SAID!

ive heard that excuse before.......... and to be honest that excuse is usually touted by those who want sponsors just to say they are sponsored
