Super Jet squarenose- lowered hood, nose job, widened tray, 701 swap

Well i have most of the foam removed from the inside of the hood, just need to get the last of it out of the tight spots. Then I just have to put down a few layers of glass on the inside to give it some strength. My goal is to be done with hood, liner and all, by the end of the weekend.

got the foam all dug out and prepped for more the finishing layers of glass before i make the liner

i also have some parts coming in soon. my shortened quick steer turn plate and sealed-bearing turning system should be here tomorrow (friday). i also ordered an internal fuel fill and watcon hood seal from cold fusion today. they sent me a tracking number within an hour of placing my order!

as long as your get the two halves bonded together you will be okay. It only needs major reinforcement in the rear if you go with polystyrene foam only.

If you use pour foam mixed with poly you don't need any reinforcement IMO.

i noticed a huge difference in strength just after pouring the foam. I wasn't too concerned about my coverage once I thought about how strong it will be just with foam in there

the hood is finished now except for the liner which will be easy enough. now all the fresh spots of the hood has 3 layers of 17oz biax. goal for this week are to glass the nose and foam the tray! i ran the tubing for dual cooling and trim (just in case) today with the help of tokarzl. he actually did the bending and such. ill get a pic posted tomorrow of the lines we ran. but here is the underside of the completed hood. I'm quite happy with the end result

poured some foam in the tray tonight. didn't get as much done this week as i would have liked to. i was stuck on emergency on-call all week and every time i thought about layin up some glass i would be called out! this weekend is all about glassing though!

Why are you doing pour foam and not styrene or pong balls etc?

Because the pour foam offers more structural support and it's easier to sand and shape. Plus I sealed the bond line on the inside with 5200 and I'll be running a strip of fiberglass around the rail to seal it up from the outside. Not to mention the pour foam is supposed to resist water from somewhere between 3-5 years, so if I have to do a refoam years from now, so be it. And last but not least, it's my build, I'll do what I want! Lol

hey i was just curious. thanks for the near orifice on my backside.

I just pulled my tray out and am in the process of removing the foam.
