I get what your saying. Component tolerances can change the timing in the CDI circuit. But it really doesn't matter if you advance it at the plate in that case. You still have a CDI which has chips and caps and diodes etc. You still wont know what your actual timing is.

One thing is for sure, if you leave that sensor hooked up you really dont know what the timing is one day to the next. It might be 6 degrees at the plate but the fluctuations in temperature are changing the timing constantly.

True, if I not mistaken you unplug it and leave it open!!!!!!!!! All my bag of tricks on a stock class setup are fading since I sold my SXR 4 years ago........... damn, cannot believe it has been that long!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheapest way: Get a piece of aluminum foil out of the house. Crunch it up and jam it in the connector and re-connect. Lots of guys around my house have had this in their stockers for years.

Thats some nice afro-engineering right there!

I had an 2005 SXR I bought brand new, in the winter. I tore it apart before I rode it. Installed Factory wet pipe, Rad lightweight flywheel, Skat Trak 13/18. It did 54 mph, I ran 91-93 octane with 175 psi compression with no probs, very reliable setup. In Spring 2012, I had the cylinder ported and bored to 84.5mm (830cc) SBN 46's R&D intake, R&D head milled to 198 psi and installed into my Q8 with a mag pump. Made crazy power, I think the hull weight diff helped too, but that engine still runs to this day on the original crank. The air temp (green connector) gets jumped, Factory pipe supplys with the pipe, could also easily be made.

Reliability is paramount for me so for now I will leave air temp sensor connected . I've only ever seen one other ski on river. The guy was broken down on old 550 4 miles from Cochrane, through him a line and half throttled back to town. So as it is I will continue to enjoy fastest ride on river! Hope everyone has a great season. Photos from today's ride.
