7/8" bar stock works great with the 25mm ht padding but not the greatest idea if you think you'll remove your strap. I drilled a couple holes in the bottom for bite, scuffed everything up, laid some wet mat, added a little filler, and tapped them. Perfect so far. Probably could've been better if I screwed the Al into the tray... Only got one pic but you get the idea. I used the fender washer things in the rear in case I ended up wanting to turf back over them.

What ripped out? Was it because you'd only used one screw on each side you think? I want to twist my rear strap a little but am afraid of snapping a screw (10-24) if I move it so that I only get to use one on each side.

the acorn nut welded to the washer pulled out...i run three screws per side and havent had a problem.

not enough surface area... I should have glued it better
