Now, the way Buzzard described doing rolls on SJ's, I use to do the same thing as well, Call it a Power Roll. Not using a setup wake to get your lift but using the offset momentum of the ski to hit the water and then literally bounce it round into a roll. But not describe it in a condescending tone. You can get hurt doing anything. How you think I got my nickname. Was going for a huge nose stab and came out of the footholds. ski went inverted, pole extended down, I split the pole with my legs. Nuts got all swollen up, drank alot of beer that night, afterwards I said "Call me Big Kahuna".......... Someone said, "You mean Cajones"............... I said, maybe, but I like Big Kahuna.......... Name stuck.

Hey man, I just learned this trick as well. I have a stock pole so it was difficult. I was landing exactly like you are! It would make a terrible sound every time. But I finally got it down.

First, make your U turn a little slower to get a slightly bigger wake. When you approach your setup wake, give it a little blip/hop. Do this blip earlier than you might think. I learned that I was actually executing the trick too late. I thought executing it ON the wake was best, but you should really execute it slightly early so that your ski starts to slide out just before you hit the wake.

Crank the bars, pin it, lean into your bars HARD, look towards the direction of your rotation (this will help you lean slightly into your rotation without thinking about it), and finally pull up your feet like you are squatting in order to lift the back of your ski up a little. Once you get it down, you will be having tons of fun! Especially when you make that setup wake that is just right, and sends you a little higher.

To the OP, Watching the first 20 seconds of the vid, your turning bars too soon. Turn bars later, lead your weight to the inside and pick your feet up to your butt, and the ski will literally topple over you.

And I agree with others, ditch the setup wake. Do a pre-hop if you need to get momentum.

OP, i think you are going way too fast when hitting your wake. Slow down a bit so you pop in the air more. Second, it looks like you head and body is looking straight ahead. When you turn the bars, turn your shoulders and head to match and you body will follow a lot more. At the same time you want to let the ski ride out from under you a bit. With your body turned the way it wants to go, let the ski follow. Once you have that down, then you can start inverting by looking not just to the side by also down, like back to your ankle.
