Personally I would bump up the compression. I would run 35cc domes which produces 185 psi and you could still keep it reliable. You'll just have to make sure the jetting is spot on, that you are running 93 octane fuel, and that you limit WOT runs.

Bumped up compression definitely makes a ski more snappier. The MSD Enhancer will also provide some more snap. I know a lot of people dont believe in MSD Enhancer and I was skeptical at first, but I ended up purchasing one and my thoughts on it can be read in post number 4 of the following thread:

By the way a girdled head is one of the best things you can do to help the reliability of the ski because it will protect the cylinder from cracking. So in the end I would say that neither of these mods will hurt the reliability of the ski and in some respect actually help reliability.

I bought the enhancer first and still have the stock head and it rips insanely for not having bumped up compression(Ill have to gps it sometime when I get a chance).

Im going to be installing the ada girdled head soon, but I am still afraid of what domes to run because I do like occasional wot runs and am worried about blowing up my motor.

Bring it to my house, add about $3000 (negotiable) and trade it for a super reliable 2003 Honda R-12X. :439:

If your planning on porting later then buy a girdled head but if your future plans do NOT include porting then I would save the cash and just buy a head. As far as reliability a 35 cc dome head MSD enhancer and 93 octane is all you need. I think the MSD is well worth the money spent. It bumps your timing curve up and it gives the ski that low end punch you are looking for. Then up your compression to take advantage of that timnig advance and it will be like a new ski.

You can run WOT all day long with that setup and not have a problem. I ran my SJ like a rental and had 33 cc domes a little over 200 psi and never had a problem even with a slight air leak everything still held up. So the 180 point is a safe range for compression.

If you're going to buy an aftermarket head you might as well spend a little more and get a girdled head to be on the safe side. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't feel comfortable running 185lbs of compression with out a girdled head. To me an extra $100 would be worth the peace of mind and more than likely save me from having a rebuild/new cylinder down the road.

I have never heard of an unported cylinder cracking. I might be in the dark but I haven't heard of it. I also don't like the girdled head with dry pipes. He is more than likely running a B pipe but I ran a dry pipe and as hind sight I wish I had kept my 29cc R&D head that I ran the first year and just ran the snot out of it instead of changing to a girdled head to lower compression. But to each his own.

44mm dualies.

Some people really recommend larger carbs. I know RiverRat is a fan of 44's over OEM even on a mild setup.

Or you could go for some mild port work, just a small cleanup.
