Superjet won't turnover with plugs in

Hi

Stop testing your starter the way you are doing it.....there is no bushing location the end of the bendix as that sits inside the flywheel cover housing....so now you are stripping the bendix / starter gears as the whole thing is flopping around and grinding the teeth.

One of your starter brushes might not be making contact with the armature....they look a bit short / worn.....swop out the starter with a known good one, and then last...swop out the bendix with a known good one.....the bendix clutch might be slipping when the plugs are in.

I only took the case off and tested it once just to see if I could spot any abnormalities.

The bendix, flywheel and stator were off of my spare running 650 motor so I assumed they were good.

From the video it looks as though the starter is still spinning the back of the bendix but the bendix teeth that contact the flywheel turn the opposite direction when compression builds. I believe the bendix clutch is slipping like you suggested.

If your bendix is slipping you can drop the whole thing in a solvent to dissolve any oil grease that may have got inside....leave it in for a day or two...then blow it out with high pressure air jet....and try using it again.

For sure the bendix slipping, you can see all the oil/grease its slung off in the bottom of the flywheel case. I leave mine in ATF to keep them clean and working smoothly, maybe try that? ive also blown them out with brake clean and then a little re-greasing.

Did you ever figure out what it was? I just put a superjet together and I am having the same issue. Ski turns over very slow, almost just Lopes over with the plugs in. I can't figure it out.

It sounds like your battery is weak! Get it checked out, if you have a volt meter, you should have 12 volts.

Yes, mine was due to the bendix not functioning correctly. The internal clutch was slipping which is why it
Couldn't turn it over when the plugs were in.

BEastman is right though.
Yours sounds more like a weak battery or maybe worn out starter. I'd try the battery first.

I agree. Starters can be had for around $50 on here and ebay. If the battery/cables/starter aren't your issue, there may be something bound up on the pistons or crank. I would have to say its the starter though, as these things can get weak sometimes and if you're running at high compression, i would say thats the culprit.
