Just curious ... can you take a picture of the finished bulkhead and i thought you said you ran no foam? did you do any reinforcement underneath? how has that held up? im doing a top deck soon and have some ideas....

How thick was the deck and gunnal sections that you feel comfortable using no foam? And if you actually happen to know... how many layers?

I wrapped from gunwale to gunwale with a single piece of 12" wide 17oz biax so I'm not worried about it. The top deck is 4 layers of s-glass with a layer of carbon on both sides of that and carbon/kevlar on the outside, so 7 layers total.

Hrmm... Well though I just turfed my ski and it looks amazing, I guess this will wait till next winter I'll do that and a widened tray on my 550.

Did you have the bulkhead completely removed at any point from the bottom deck? or did you cut around it and leave it glued in? And what methods did you do to reinforce/glass/glue in it between the decks? The bulkhead looked really thick (1/2"?) in your picture.

Yes, that's how I got the 5lbs weight on the bulkhead. I glued it in with thickened epoxy and then glassed it to the bottom front of the tray with a lot of carbon/kevlar.

Why is it so thick though? Is that all just many layers on the back side of the bulkhead, as if you glass the front it will space out the midshaft wrong....

Any more pictures of that process floating around?

I think I get what you're asking now, the edges of the stock bulkhead are flared out to give more surface area for adhesive. It's like 1" thick on the edges but maybe 3/8" in the main area.

None, you can reach back there and grab them if needed, or they go right out the scuppers so I never realize it.
