I have yet to see "perfect" waves in Oregon.
I'm there only a few times a year, and most often it's big and messy.

It sounds like you are compacting when you leave the wave. If you stand up a little more when you leave the face the back of the ski should be lower when landing and not hurt as much. Also maybe the wave is kicking the back of your ski and pushing you forward? Just a theory on that one though. Are you doing a little s turn before taking off to get the ski off axis? When I do that I rarely land flat. If i go straight and roll the flat landings happen more often.

I actually landed my first rolls doing surf stance but I was pushing my foot under the fire extinguisher. This was on a squarenose I now have a roundnose. Now I do them with both feet in the holds. Every now and then I will do a surf stance one but they hurt. I want to put a strap up front and put some surf stance rolls back in the rotation. Also doing a reverse rotation roll would be sweet in surf stance. I can do them both ways in the holds but both way in SS would be sweet!

after watching the latest video i see what your doing, when you roll your looking down at your feet when you should be looking up watching the water. also your hitting the wave too early and not getting the pop off the lip with the nose of the ski.
your danm close bro! keep killin it!

Agreed! Spotting your landing is very important. Tucking speeds up the rotation and is good for small waves (0-2 ft). When hitting the bigger waves you need to be more upright to slow down the rotation. It took me a while to get that through my head. Over rotating and doing a 1.25 hurts. The perfect roll is when the nose is spins like its on a string and the ski rolls around that. Also the ski is what rotates not you...the pump gets you spinning.

I just watched the video as well...you are leaning way forward. It looks like flat landings every time. Try leaning back a little more and the tail will touch much earlier and it won't hurt. Think of it as you standing straight up and the ski is rotating around you. The same theory is used in motocross. The video looks really good though...very clear...is that a fish eye lens?

My signature shows my rolls and flips from 07 daytona.

Try looking at the horizon...it seems to set the ski to rotate around you. I was having the same problems...

Here's a vid we made, it might help, or not!!

This is solid advice. If I ever go on a "weird roll" run, focusing on the horizon will get your body and ski lined up as it should be.

As well, spotting your landing is pretty key. It amazing how picking out a spot will seriously encourage the ski to end up there.

Jerry told me this advice as well as get going a comfortable speed and then pull the throttle a 1/4 more till your not comfortable then hit it and roll :lmao: seemed to work out pretty good most of the time. It just takes time and practice and one day it will just click! Keep it up!

I can't take credit for the comfortable speed advice - that was a little gem JK gave me a few years back.

Yes sir, it's a picture from the Jet Jump contest in Montalivet, France. I have a bit of a bigger version of it and some others at http://www.jetskier79.com.

Jerry - I totally love that picture bro... always thought it was the best roll pic ever!!

Eric and Brian - why the hell would you close your eyes and miss the best ride in the park? When you keep them closed your just along for the ride and not helping to control any part of the roll.

remember the old addage: Lead with your head and your ass will follow. But if you aren't looking you can't lead. Always look, never panic, and (for Brian) stay relaxed bro.
